Sherman and others have suggested that Chicago will send lower-level prospects to Texas in return, and The Athletic’s Patrick Mooney had pointed out that Class-A Advanced right-hander Rollie Lacy was scratched from tonight’s start for Chicago’s Myrtle Beach affiliate, though it’s not yet clear if he’s headed to the Rangers as part of the return for Hamels.

Rollie Lacy had a spectacular first-half for the Cubs, recording a 2.40 ERA with 63 strikeouts, splitting time between the bullpen and the rotation. Lacy made just 13 total appearances for the South Bend Cubs, and has struggled staying healthy, as the former Creighton Blue Jay pitched just 29.1 innings in the minors last season.

Lacy, drafted in the eleventh round last summer, has been one of the biggest surprises on the mound this season. He worked out of the bullpen to start the year, but quickly pitched his way into the rotation. Now, after 71.1 innings of a 2.02 ERA and 84 strikeouts, he likely joins the rotation for Myrtle Beach. In addition to his good strikeout ratio, Lacy also gets a ton of grounders – 62.1% rate to be precise. If he can keep up that sort of success in Myrtle Beach, he won’t be staying with the Pelicans very long either.
