If he feels he has the leverage to get more money, then he should try to get more money

Good news for the Eagles, as they play Atlanta to kick off the season. Julio can probably come in and play, but guys who hold out tend to have injury problems coming back, and we all know that Julio is injured roughly half the time.

Honestly, Atlanta would be foolish to pay him a lot of money at this stage in his career. They should explore a trade.

I agree. NFL contracts are not like the other sports contracts where they are fully guaranteed. Once the guaranteed money in deal is done a player can get cut just like that and not owed any money.

But as Igg pointed out Julio is often injured and he may not have the leverage he thinks he has.

Jones signed a five-year, $71 million contract in 2015 that included a $12 million signing bonus and $47 million guaranteed. His base salary this season is $10.5 million.

Why even have contracts last more than a year or two if the player is just gonna bitch about them midway through? Dude has 9 TDs on 171 catches in the last 2 years. $10.5 mil is appropriate for that level of production. They also just spent a 1st rounder on a WR this year. He has no leverage.

Meh, unless he sits out games or give up something radical I don't see anyway Julio can actually get his contract reworked. It's terrible from the cap/business point of view for the Falcons. Their hand would need to be forced.

Julio's TD numbers are absurdly low for a player of his caliber. Atlanta obviously has a good run game, and runs a lot in goal line situations, but they still don't use him very well in certain situations.

The Falcons waited longer to redo Ryan's deal. 2 years into a 5 year deal that made JJ the highest paid receiver in football, and the franchise saying they'd be willing to redo his deal after year 3? Julio Jones has little to stand on here.

Julio is obviously top tier when healthy but decent receivers are a dime a dozen in this league. I got no time for divas. You’re not that special.

I get that he's an elite wide-out but damn, who renegotiates with 3 years left on a deal!? Julio has been everything the Falcons hoped he'd be but I can't blame them for choosing to hold off till next offseason to discuss. Julio is a guy that really doesn't need training camp in order to get ready for Sundays, but his absence gives Ridley a lot more run time with the 1s. I see this as a big win for the Falcons.

Jones should be thankful he gets to catch passes from Ryan.

There's a zero percent chance he gets a new deal. He may get some extra incentives but that will be it

2 years removed from signing a very good contract and now wants more? Any holdout would help the other NFC teams. Kind of a lame move by Julio IMO.
