Talk about one of the worst contracts ever. He is going to make 32.5 million in 2016 and 2017 and 25 million this year. Guy hasn't done anything for the angles. People want to talk about Arods contract at least he woman MVP and a championship. This guy shouldn't even be close to making 32 million a year. This contract is in my top 5 of all time Bad contracts.

I guess you could say the "angles" signing Hamilton to such a contract was rather obtuse.

Isn't it something like $70M that Hamilton/CJ/Pujols are making all by themselves this year? :pound:

It's not Josh Hamilton's addiction or money that makes people hate him. It was the way that he left Texas and the things that he said and the way that he just completely gave up on the team before he left. Josh has played so terribly since signing on with LA that it gives people zero joy anymore to continue to hound on his lost baseball abilities so they go back to his addiction. And speaking as someone who is completely annoyed with hearing about Josh Hamilton, people do not wish Josh to overdose, who would, but we all poke fun at him because he's an admitted drug addict and that makes it ok for him to continue playing baseball. Anybody else that was kicked out of baseball in their first season for drug use, was allowed to come back to baseball, and then "relapsed" twice would be kicked out of baseball for life. That's why people hound on Josh and his money-hungry wife.

The ruling just came down and there will be no discipline. If you punish him, all you'll accomplish is keeping people who need help from seeking help. Since he self reported it, no need to punish him further, he's going through enough.

He is not looking at anything close to a lifetime ban. All of his failed tests came while he was in the minors. Heck, he didn't even fail a test this time, he admitted to the drug use. Since this would likely be considered his first offense, he might just be looking at a long stint in rehab & no suspension. Although Selig did allow him back in the league “via Bud Selig’s discretion and terms”, so I guess the new commish could use that to punish him outside of the JDA.

Looks like I called this one right.

Our society is so backwards about how we deal with drug abuse issues. The natural consequences created with drug abuse are significant enough and if they are not a deterrent to get people to stop then why would you punish them further on top of that? And if creating a deterrent isn't the reason for punishment then what is?

For the MLB the only answer as to why they would punish him is because of their image, which to some degree is their right given he is a representative. However then let's stop with the talk about what's in the best interest for Josh Hamilton and just own that you are worried about your product's perception with the public.

A few drinks on a plane trip to Vegas gets Josh Gordon a year long suspension. This guy bumps some rails off a hooker's ass and they say "No Problem!" :der: Where is the sense in this???

It all seems a bit prudish to me.

A rockstar, or an attorney does coke from time to time and nobody blinks.

Let the guy play- if he can play.

Often, rock stars or attorneys work for themselves. Hamilton doesn't, so it's not really a parallel comparison.

The Angels want him off the team and are trying to buy his sorry ass out. I don't blame them.

Hamilton may be owed 83 million but the Angels are owed something in return: a drug free player who will go all out to make up for two unproductive seasons and an very egotistical attitude.

If all this developed AFTER they signed him, I would almost agree with you. But this dude had a LONG track record before ever talking to the Angels.

If you buy a used car with a known engine problem, and engine starts to act up, you have no right to go back to whomever sold you the car for reparations. The issue was known at the time of the transaction.

Tough shit, Angels. You knew you were signing a crackhead when you did the deal in the first place. Let the buyer beware! Buyouts never seem to happen in MLB, anyway. That's more of an NBA thing.

The only reason the Angels are doing this is because he's not the same player he was in Texas. That's it. If he could still hit, they'd be talking about 'we're family' or praising his courage for coming forward with his recent relapse. But they're not....because he's no longer a great hitter. That is on the Angels. That's their failure. Most fair weather fans could have told you that he wasn't going to keep hitting 40 taters a year until he was in his 40's. Duh.
