Just trying to help you with the truth before ESPN washes his balls for the next few weeks. I wonder if they will post a picture of him and Posada naked in the Yankee whirlpool. I hear Posada found a gift basket on his front porch the next morning.

Come on Blade. Admit it, it feels good to bash him again after all these years doesn't it?
Yes. It's like a summer breeze. Well, more like a summer whiff.
Are they going to talk about how he paid for Cory Lidle's private pilot license training?

I was going to say Lidle was a better pilot than pitcher but that would be in poor taste

Lidle would have gotten his own series if the pilot wasn't so bad

How can anyone hate Jeter? If you're a fan of the sport guys with that kind of pizzazz are part of the fun....going back to Reggie at least.

Sure make fun of him, but deep down you know he's been good for baseball.

I liked what I saw of episode 1 of the doc. Seeing some big name when they're just a kid and they don't know their future is pretty fun.

I don't hate Jeter. I did as a kid and young adult, but that childish jealousy turned into respect.

My problem was the absolute ball-washing that nearly every media member gave him over the years. He was a great player, but they treated him like a God and that just didn't sit right with me.

It was the player + NY + the personality. He was bigger than his stats (like Reggie Jackson for similar reasons, or Buster Posey for different ones)

He was 'Mr Baseball' for a while

This. For fuck's sake, he of all people was the first unanimous hall of fame induction.

If he hadn't played on the Yankees, we probably wouldn't even know his name.

That was Rivera, and he deserved it... Jeter got 99% and some people complained about that!!

I'm not sure if he was more overrated than Nolan Ryan, but he's definitely in the top 5...

He had a great long career and was very good and worthy of the Hall of Fame (for his longevity)- but for the first half of his career, he was behind Arod, Tejada & Garciaparra (in the AL!)...

I'm not sure if he was ever the 'best' short stop in any of his seasons....

I didn't know he was that bad, but I'm pretty sure when he took the field at shortstop there was a guy about 20 feet to his right who was a better shortstop. (starting in 2004)

Granted DRS only goes back to 2003, so I’m sure there were worse defenders before that, from 2003 until his retirement, there wasn’t a worse defensive player in the Majors and hasn’t been since according to DRS

Well that's a little unfair to start it the year he turned 29. He never was elite, but cutting out his 20s altogether is cherry picking.

Damn it! Now I feel dirty taking up for Jeter!

He was the worst defensive liability in the Majors and refused to let a superior short stop play short. I’ve probably could have been a non liability at third base.
