I see Swaggy P, Henry, Hill, and possibly Kelly signing multi-year deals with the Lakers.
Lakers should keep the draft pick, then cash in Lin for a mid level 3 or 4 position.
On the other hand, Lin in L.A. will put a lot of Asian butts in seats.
I don't see this as a bad move. Lin is a significant improvement over Steve Blake or Jordan Farmar and I see him playing really well with Kobe.
They have to pay for Lin
Honestly not a terrible deal except for the fact that they are enabling Houston
I think lin is a big market player. He will be big in LA, like he was in NY. Big difference being in a small market.
This is a temp move. Lin won't be with the team past this year. He's a backup making starter money.
He was valuable only for his contract expiring, that's it. There's no way Mitch is looking at that turnover machine as a valuable player for the roster.
I really like the Lin move for a few reasons. He's a decent to good PG, he's fun to watch, he's said to be very coachable and he has an expiring contract.
His biggest weaknesses are that he's streaky/inconsistent and he's a defensive liability. If, as many are saying, Byron Scott becomes the Lakers next coach and Scott can coach him up, he could be a pretty good acquisition and be re-signed after the season for less than he is currently making. If he doesn't work out, he comes off the books at the end of the season.
Plus, the Lakers get a 1st rounder and it only cost them some cash and the rights to a foreign player. Or as someone else said earlier.......a handshake.
Houston isn't a small market, its the 3rd or 4th largest market in the nation
