this seems like a ridiculous amount of money for him, lately I'm overwhelmed at the contracts. Can MLB simply print money? Wow.

I would have loved to see Samardzija play pro football when he first graduated. I think he would have made a pretty good NFL receiver but there is no doubt financially it was a no brainer. He was a special athlete though.

there was a take it for what its worth story with the cubs a couple weeks ago, saying Shark was gonna sign for 4/65.

http://hometownsportsandfitness.com/jef ... ja-is-back

this was after Theo had dinner with him.

If its 5 or 6 for 100, I hope there are 35 million in incentives if its the cubs.

I almost expected him to sign a one year deal for 10-12 to prove he can turn it around and bet on himself, but with guaranteed 100 million, I doubt that happens.

When the cubs had him they signed Non Action Jackson for 4/52, so he thought he was worth more than him. Now Zimmerman signs for 5/110 so I dont doubt he is looking at that comparison.

He also costs the Giants their first pick.

Yeah this signing is dumb. But then again the FO that did it has a ton of credibility. We'll see.

Surprised they went that way instead of Leake. Maybe they will get both. Or maybe they will get Cespedes.

I would have preferred Leake over Samardzija, everything else being the same. Now you add in the loss of a pick? And you have to assume the dogs will be targeting Leake now.

Bad bad bad bad bad bad

Said almost the exact same thing about the Dodgers when I saw the Greinke signing. :heh:

If the Giants are done then it's a mess. But they should have another move or two.

I am just not a fan of Samardzija, especially since he has the pick attached to him. There were, IMHO, at least 2 other, better options (Cueto and Leake).

The one good thing to come from this signing is that it drops the cost for going after Heyward, Gordon or Upton.

Another good thing: a legit #2. Last year not indicative, and he still throws hard. They gotta make another move to make it a good offseason, let's see what happens.

Based on what?

Since becoming a starter in 2012 (ERA/WHIP/IP/K/BB)

2012 - 3.81/1.219/174.2/180/56 (a good #3)
2013 - 4.34/1.348/213.2/214/78 (a bad #3 or OK #4)
2014 - 2.99/1.065/219.9/202/43 (a legit #1)
2015 - 4.96/1.294/214.0/163/49 (a passable #4)

Where do you see "a legit #2" in there?
