I cant believe they want Jackson. What if he wants 6-8 million a year? Can we afford that?

Short answer...

Yes we can afford it. If he wants $12 million a year... we could but should not do it.

He will get a deal that averages between $7-11 million a year on average, its just a matter of who signs him and how the deal is structured.

I'd give him up to 8 mil/season but nothing in guarantees.

No way he signs for that. Right now the only mark against him is he apparently doesnt get along with Chip Kelly and he might have known some one who might have been in a gang when he might have been a teenager. Now he wont get an uber deal. But something like what Stevie Johnson got from the Bills would be my first guess.

$11 million in guaranteed money with an average cost of $7-9 million per year.

I honestly believe DeSean could just sign with the Skins out of spite. I just don't understand how they could release him. About a month ago, there was a report that they were shopping him. However, Chip Kelly said he is not up for trade, but they'd just listen to offers. Now, they release him and all of these so-called gang affiliation and distraction stuff comes up. If distraction was such a big deal, Riley Cooper should've been banished, last year for his use of the "N" word. I believe this is about money. Chip Kelly believes he has a good enough system, where he can have some cheaper WRs (Maclin, Cooper) do the job. Losing DeSean is a lot bigger than he may believe. The man had 82-1336-9TDs, along with a 16.2ypc. Maclin and Cooper is not the game-breaker that DeSean is. Not to mention, he doubles as a PR.

The question is, can we sign him? I'm not sure. I believe he'll have to come in for less. Pierre Garcon is already getting paid a grip. However, crazier things have happened. Getting him would give us a game-breaker that we don't even have in Garcon, though he's no scrub, either. Talk about an arsenal, with RGIII throwing to Pierre Garcon, DeSean Jackson, Andre Roberts, and Jordan Reed. Of course, Aldrick could be another HR threat, too. Then, we'd still have Alfred toting the rock. This would also change the draft. We could then focus on getting a RT, G, or FS with that first pick. Only time will tell.

For everyone discrediting his gang affiliation, you might want to look up the police report last year when his philly apt was robbed, he had something in the neighborhood of 200K in cash and jewelry stolen along with two guns. Months after the fact we find out it was a rival gang related burglary directed at him on purpose. Also another story that got squashed a few years back thanks to Andy Reid was a time he was pulled over in his sportscar after driving erradic, cops found weed and an unregistered gun in his possession, somehow Andy Reid was able to squash it and no charges were filed and it never made the media pages until recently, Andy is on record saying to Desean that if he ever pulls anything like this again he(Andy) will make sure he never plays another down in the NFL! And for the person saying Andy & the Chiefs are interested you couldn't be any more wrong, Andy and the Chiefs have said they have no interest in his services at all.

Might want to brace yourself then Kev. The Skins have been rather strategic, but I wont be shocked if they make him an offer Monday. We are still going to need some height at WR though.

There is no telling what he's going to get. Teams are going to definitely look into his life. Do I really expect him to get nothing in guarantees...No...but I don't think he's going to get too much and it really depends on how long a contract he signs for.

It's not about money because they can't replace him with his cap savings. PHI tried to trade him but nobody came knocking and for a player like Jackson to not get any hits...there is more to this story than you and I know. Kelly and Jackson spoke obviously and apparently could not work out their issues...so combine that with no trade offers...and you get a player that is cut.

Cooper was a dumb ass but I'm not going to get all bent out of shape for him using that word (again, he was an idiot) when black people use it all the time.

Garcon is better than Jackson. More yards, more receptions, more reliable.

I could see us giving him $10 guaranteed over five with say $6 of it being signing bonus, base salary of the first two guaranteed and a year one cap hit of $2.7 million.

But thats just off the top of my head what would likely work for both sides. If we can get him for $5M signing bonus on a 3 year deal worth $7 million a year average with a $2.5 million year one cap hit... i would be impressed.

Wow...thanks for the info. I remember the 200K robbery now but don't really remember the other one. Maybe that's why nobody wanted to trade for Jackson. If he receives a low contract with little guaranteed, we know these things are true.

im not sure i want us to get him. big risk with the gang stuff, progeriakid's piece sounded really bad, not sure about this work ethic and attitude, seems like a me over team player, injury prone. i just dont know about this guy.

You do realize that anything coming from an Eagles fan on the matter of Jackson needs to be taken with a grain of salt presently. The team just cut their top WR and took a healthy cap hit to do it. Not saying he is full of it, and yes Jackson does come with some risks... as do all FA players. But if we end up signing him I will not be upset over it by any means.

if we sign him i will support it 100% and throw all the shit i said before out the window, but right now i just think its really risky. him not being on philly, dal, or nyg is a win itself for us though.

This looks like a college coach who convinced an organization to get rid of a so called "one trick pony"
I'm sure they were not going to be bullied by DeSean wanting more $$$. and when they couldn't trade for picks and dump off the contract to another team....it was time to destroy him.
A lot of info was leaked, Gang member names and murder accusations. They could have simply released him for conduct detrimental to the team. For days the Eagles never confirmed or denied trying to trade him to keep leverage. Very, very nasty split

If you understand the risks going in, you can usually manage them. Its interesting that Jackson is coming here for his first visit. That tells me he is interested in revenge. He wants to play Philly twice a year. I would love to see a Desean with a chip on his shoulder playing here, but we do have to protect ourselves. Don't be surprised if we offer him a 1 year deal and that he takes it. It kinda makes sense for both parties.

Eagles fans are furious over this from what I have read. I don't think "a fan" would be trying to help the organization's current light.

This isn't an organization that just listens to a "one year wonder" from the college ranks and it's unlikely the team could not trade DJ on his current contract if these "rumors" were not true.

Is Eagles' concern over DeSean Jackson gang-related or unfair? | FOX Sports on MSN

Excellent article highlighting many issues with Jackson, most indirectly linked.

1) 2010- members of DJ's record label (Theron Shakir) murdered Taburi Watson. Shakir was a member of the Crips and DJ had pictures on Instagram of himself and Shakir. DJ cooperated with the police but his name came up (never as a suspect) in a murder investigation.

2) 2012- gang related murder that again brought up DJ's name. Again, he wasn't a suspect but they found several items related to DJ.

3) DJ has flashed the Crips sign numerous times on social media. While nobody has proven or said he is a member of the Crips, he has a lot of Crips ties and if he isn't a member, the Crips don't take kindly to flashing that sign.

4) He flashed a gang sign on NATIONAL TELEVISION against our very own Redskin's DHALL.

5) DJ's record label is JACCPOT. Notice the spelling. It's believed he went with this spelling because the Crips don't put "CK" together because in gang lingo that means "crip killer."

6) Court records do show a previous arrest in 2009 of DJ that were plead down to "disturbing the peace" but the other two counts included "possession of marijuana while driving."

7) His house was robbed. I didn't read anything about gang ties here but there was a question about the police report. Originally, it was written that he said $200,000 was in his safe; however, that was later changed to $20,000. They said typo but at one point they were thinking "false police report." I actually read in another article that his mom gave the original statement of 200K but DJ later corrected her.

8) Several nightclubs in south Philly banned DJ from attendance. It takes very shady actions to ban that kind of money from your establishment (that is my conclusion, not the article).

The only people defending DJ are Derrick Ward (he says what do you expect because he's from there and thinks the organization is wrong), his agent (he says he's not a gang member), and DJ himself (he says he's not a gang member).
