No, I see it too. He needs that shut down start where he goes 7-8 allowing 2 or less. He needs to know he can still do it.

You may have just hit this nail on the head.

When you haven't done something in a long, long time, there's gotta be some doubt as to what's in the tank. That's human nature.

I'm a little more "middle-of-the-road" on Martin than you. Maybe a lot actually.

He's still just 26 years old, is Cuban - meaning, many of these guys are talented yet, not disciplined - and he's gotten better for two straight years (fielding/hitting) so I'm gonna roll with his "immaturity" issues and let him grow.

I see boat loads of upside, and as much as don't want to say this, I think Wash is handling/evaluating him perfectly.

Just one guy's take.

I think you misunderstand me. I think Martin is developing into a star, but like you see he clearly doesn't have the mental side of the game figured out by any stretch. Defensively he's greatly improved, but when it's crunch time in the batter's box he gets extremely impatient.

Gosh....when you put it that way......:agree:

Seriously, I see him as "potentially" a 4 1/2 tool man outta 5. My only doubt about him, long term, is his power. And if he does everything else to the best of his enormous ability I don't give a damn about his 12 HR kinda power.

15 homers with lots of doubles and 35+ stolen bases a year is pretty good production from a cf. Especially if he can start getting on base enough to be a lead off hitter.

I really hope Moreland can fit in at the three hole. He's got to keep the same approach he's been using. That opposite field double yesterday is a perfect example. I just wish we had someone else who could lead off so choo could hit third.

Why not try Rios batting 1st. He seemed to struggle some with risp this season but has recently come around some and also at least when he leads off a game you don't have to worry about him hitting into a double play. Batting 1st might take away some of the risp pressure he has shown too. He has the speed for it too just needs more discipline on the on the base paths and better base running instincts.

Not bad. Made Verlander work hard. He's having trouble throwing strikes. Stay on that till he proves he can. Could've gone better if wash hadn't given away an out. :L

I'm listening on the radio, but it sounds like poor defense keeping the tigers in the game.....

Just having trouble getting a grip to turn a double play. Colby has made the pitches to get out of this.
