Whenever someone mentions the Board of Governors, I always picture all the owners in a room with tuxedos and top hats and it takes like an hour and a half to get the meeting started as they go around the room tipping their hats to one another saying " 'allo Govna' ."

And naturally, Gary Bettman has a green outfit with tophat on and looks something like this:

I think the answer if you are pissed off and don't want to give them your money is - watch on TV! The NHL is VERY dependent on revenue at the gate. A very rough esimate (can't find any recent breakdowns) is that the NHL operates on roughly 50% of their money coming from tickets, roughly 25% coming from media/advertising revenues, and another 25% coming from concessions and merchandise sales.

So, if you just don't attend games, you are cutting off 75% of the sources where they draw revenue from. And you can still enjoy cheering on your team from the comfort of your home (or a bar or wherever) while not contributing much to their bottom line.

I'm easy. I'll still probably go to a game. Many of my friends are NHL noobs and want to see the game live. I will most def be going as they are all "Bruins fans".

Some teams have really made strides since the work stoppage.

For example the Leafs are no longer the only team to have not played a playoff game since the last lockout.

I love this bit from Friedman's 30 Thoughts. He says something I kind of said here, yesterday. He is 100% right. People forget the power they have in situations like this

The cycle of lockouts must end. As the NHL and NHLPA peel themselves off the iceberg, only two groups of people from outside can really affect change: the sponsors and the fans.

Sponsors, angered by this muck, got a long-term CBA that eventually will benefit both sides. What do fans want? That's up to you. Baseball's fans made it very clear another strike would not be tolerated in 2002. That sport's owners and players rushed to a last-second settlement because of it.

I've suggested here (and on radio) that anyone who wants it should receive the Centre Ice cable TV package free for the rest of the season.

Teams and players clearly are committed to saying the right things about fans in the aftermath of the lunacy. More than words, I hope the NHL, NHLPA and individual teams make a serious effort to come up with creative ideas to make their customers happy aside from, you know, playing.

Nineteen #MNWild players on #xcel ice in sweaters here. Round of applause from about 20 Wild employees in crowd

I think it has to be said that a Dallas team sans Ott and Ribeiro is certainly not as loathsome.

Derek-Roy.jpg

Yes it is.

Jammy Jagr and Ray Whitney in the Dallas fold...Maybe Modano should strap the skates back on in big D.

Something something... Mike Modano... Big D... Strap On...

Bah. Damn this lockout. I am sooooo rusty.

Yes because as we all know, goalies are some of the most rational people you'll ever meet.

I resemble that remark.

Oh no.
