Sorry Pittsburgh people, I guess there just might be a curse hanging over the Pirates as well.

That umpire deserves to be suspended. That was as bas as the Galarraga call last season.

Jerry cannot be allowed to contribute anything more to this series, can he? He cannot be allowed to just get away with this without some form of punishment, right? And no, I'm not just looking for a misty eyed hand-shake with Mckenry before the game (a la Jim Joyce).

This smacks of "i'm tired, it was close enough, let's go the fuck home."

That's not good enough. Not when both teams had contributed two games worth of baseball in one evening.

Good post man, and yes he should be accountable for that bad call. Instant replay anybody?

Accountability

That's all I'm looking for.

If Meals is working tonight, he will be in front of the third base dugout... and the pirates bench is right behind him. :fear:

Would be cool if the whole Pirates dugout came out and got him in a kick circle.

The worst part is the 3 way dogfight that is the NL Central. I realize it is only 1 loss and they may have lost regardless but this could keep them from winning the division. I can't see any of the 3 teams separating themselves from each other.

I just hope this doesn't keep them out of the post-season.

Don't be so negative, this could kickstart them as well.

It's how one HORRIFIC call impacts so many teams. First the Braves win by pure luck, and keep the NL East as tight as it's been. Next you have the Pirates losing who are in contention for the NL central title.

Fuck not having instant replay.

The Pirates beat writer did report he had never seen the locker room as fired up as he did after the game last night. So you could be right.

Bad calls are going to happen, but it's only 1/162nd of the season. No guarantee that the Pirates win the game anyway, but I understand the frustration since it looked like it brushed his leg.

I can also understand the bad call since he barely brushed the leg. Even the announcer botched it while watching the instant replay and saying the catcher tagged him "again on the arm." Reffing is a tough ass job.

Yes, reffing is a tough ass job. But, so is my job, and I'm sure there are countless others on this board who can claim that, as well. I'm not given any free passes at work.

I can't get the, "it's late, I'm tired, looks close enough, lets go home" feel out of my head that I get from Meals on this call. The play occurred at least three feet from the plate. Meals called him safe before Lugo even touched the plate.

That's inexcusable.

At the very least, Meals needs to have some words with the Pirates prior to the game, tonight.

I had trouble sleeping because of this fracking thing...and I'm still ticked off. Not only was he out, but the pitcher who hit the ball tripped on the way to 1st base, and we would've gotten 2 outs, out of the inning, and on to the 20th. Also, as bad as the Jim Joyce call was, it was bang-bang, and they STILL WON THE GAME. So while it sucks it went that way, they got the consolation prize: winning.

Also, Lugo lied through his teeth after the game. "I thought he made the right call." Yeah, so that's why you looked so defeated after you hopped up. Didn't even try to sell that you were safe, and after being called safe you made sure to touch the plate again.
