Woke up for work this morning, had breakfast and headed out. Opened back door, walked out, turned around and came back inside. Called the Boss. Told him my truck didn't start.

Fuck that. No way am I working in a metal shop that is unheated except for the plasma cutter I operate. Stacks of sheet steel has been sitting around all weekend getting cold.

It's gonna get down to 5 degrees to night. It's been 5 years since we've seen single digits and that was 9 degrees.

I wouldn't count on a weather forecast past 5 days or so. Particularly in this part of the country.
I have the utmost respect for weather folk, I've worked with them for the majority of my career, but there are so many variables that the models just aren't reliable enough. You can put the same data into 4 different models and their algorithms will spit out 4 different forecasts. It all depends what unknown factors you decide to bias the most. Those are the best of models available.

My statement was just a prayer based on pure hypothesis. There's only so much cold in the polar region and as it dips all the way down to Florida it's got to dissipate somewhat. The Jetstream has spent it's days since late November way down across central Oklahoma, far south of where it would normally be, so that cold has been dissipating for a while now. Days are getting longer and there's only so much time for that cold to build back up north of us.

I listen to NOAA generally, we use them alot as a Fire Dept and they are pretty accurate (short term) Just hopin they got it right for Feb

Yeah. I know a lot of peeps that went on to work for NOAA after the military or that I've worked with since. They are under funded IMO. Like I said, I give them props for what they're tasked with doing.

It's easy to forecast a day in Orlando, FL 15 days away. The odds of being right are pretty high. It's a mf'er forecasting the same distance out across the Plains.
