Looks like opposing coaches have a book on the Mark Banker pass defense and they all share it. 119th in the country.

Only three teams have had 90 or more passes attempted against them. Tennessee, Rutgers, and Nebraska. Each of those teams is 1-1.

You would think that teams that are thrown against all the time, would lead in sacks. Nope.

All three of those teams averages 2.5 sacks per game, tied for 37th. Nebraska has the least amount of yards per sack of those three teams.

Nebraska had a pretty good pass defense the last seven seasons. Something tells me the Mark Banker pass defense scheme is not very good.

2014 Oregon State allowed 2977 passing yards, record 5-7
2013 Oregon State allowed 3202 passing yards, record 7-6
2012 Oregon State allowed 2919 passing yards, record 9-4
2011 Oregon State allowed 2573 passing yards, record 3-9
2010 Oregon State allowed 2738 passing yards, record 5-7
2009 Oregon State allowed 3056 passing yards, record 8-5
2008 Oregon State allowed 2352 passing yards, record 9-4

That is 46-42, with three losing seasons. Every season had four or more losses, four seasons had six or more losses.

Not exactly sure what this all means, but if Nebraska only rushes four guys, gives the QB all day to pass, looks like Nebraska is on pace to give up around 4,000 yards for the season.

BTW, this pass defense is a lot like Indiana. Too bad Nebraska and Indiana don't meet. We would be able to determine which team is better or worse. Indiana went 4-8 and 5-7 the last two years.

Okay, Okay. Nebraska is a passing team. Miami is 5th in pass defense and averages 3.5 sacks per game, against scrubs though. But, if Miami's pass defense is for real, looking at opening the season 1-2.

But......what does Oregon State have anything to do with Nebraska?

Good stuff HiB10

My only counter to that is that the PAC is a predominantly pass oriented conference.

Unfortunately his rush defenses weren't stellar either.

I don't buy it.

Coaching at Oregon State is like coaching an FCS school in one of the best major conferences in the country. They just simply don't have the athletes.

You are behind the 8-ball the second you take the job at Oregon State. Not only are you surrounded by some of the most talented teams in the country on a weekly basis, but you are Oregon State....and your brand = poopoo.

Here at Nebraska there aren't excuses for losing. Every game should be a win here.

At Oregon State there are excuses for losing every game.

Same could be said of K. State and a number of other schools that were complete shit before certain coaches took them over. Riley was at Oregon St for 14 years. You tryna tell me that no matter how good they were they'd never had support from the university, alumni, and fans?

K. State was considered the worst football program by Sports Illustrated before Snyder took over.

No matter how many times you try to compare Oregon State to Nebraska, it is still completely flawed. Not even taking into consideration the talent level at each school, simply looking at the passing statistics for the two conferences would show you this. The B1G as a conference threw for 37,364 yds last year, and the PAC threw for 44,137. That's nearly 7,000 yds more for the PAC. The PAC had one 4,000 yd passer and SEVEN 3,000 yd passers in 2014. The B1G had ONE 3,000 yd passer (nearly 2, as Hackenberg threw for ~2,900). The difference is even more apparent when you remember that the PAC has two less teams to put up those numbers with.

Anyone want to guess where in the PAC12 Oregon State finished in passing yards given up?

Wasn't Oregon State like the least winningest program out of all Major Conferences before Riley took over?

I know there was something like this.

I always thought K. State was.

I just know SI called them the worst program of all time a few years before Snyder took over.

When Snyder first arrived in Manhattan, Kan., in 1989, the football program was not in good shape. In its history, Kansas State had a 299-510 record, easily the worst record in Division 1 college football at the time. The school had only four winning seasons during the 45 years prior to Snyder’s hiring and were in the midst of a 27-game losing streak.

At his original retirement in 2005, Snyder had taken Sports Illustrated’s “Worst Program in the Country” and built an impressive program

The one thing I did know is that in order to exaggerate my point I needed to compare Oregon State to another really shitty program....so I picked Kstate.

K-State was dead last in 1989 (#107). Oregon State was #87 at that point. In 1997 when Riley took over, they had fallen to #96, good for the 12th worst team in the country. At that level of shittiness though, it really seems like splitting hairs.

K-State defeated Oregon State in 1979, the only matchup between the two teams. K-State finished the year 3-8, while Oregon State finished 1-10 :pound:

Since no one wanted to guess this, they finished third last year. Only Stanford and Utah gave up fewer yds/game. By that statistic, they had a better passing defense than Oregon and USC.
