Citing the MOU with the NHL, the KHL did not allow Lubomir Visnovsky to sign with Slovan until the end of the season. the KHL says they will meet with NHL reps to figure out a solution, but for now he cannot play in the KHL

This isn't surprising to here & I'm happy it's been done. Last night on NHL network Barry Melrose amongst others said the Isles should trade Visnovsky. My question to all of you is with the way he's handled the situation why would another team want him?

@StapeNewsday: Hearing Lubo Visnovsky's new contract with #Isles is done. 2 years, $9.5 million.

4.75M per. That's actually 850K less than his current cap hit. I can live with it.

It's a decent deal and he's one of the rare responsible puck movers. I made my earlier comment because the Pens already have Letang and Martin.

The NMC was certainly a factor in him resigning. I'm okay with it. The Islanders were going to have over 20M coming off the books at the end of the year. In Visnovsky's case they save 850K & keep him.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Mark Streit now.

Visnovsky
MacDonald
Carkner
Strait
Hamonic will be an RFA
Finley
Hickey will be an RFA

That's 7 guys the Isles have control of going into next season. That's not counting the possibility of guys like Matt Donovan, Calvin De Haan or Griffen Reinhart possibly pushing for a spot on the roster in training camp.

Yeah, I think it's actually the time for the Isles to become buyers in the offseason. They have some great young pieces and some pieces that most contenders need in goaltending and a powerplay QB. I guess that's my late night perspective, heh.

Goaltending could be an issue as early as next season. Nabby is an UFA to be & none of the young guys have stepped up. Granted Nilsson has been very ill & has just found out what the problem was.
