I agree with this. I love the grinders and antagonizers. I'm not crazy about allowing guys come back that have shown a blatant attempt to injure. Cooke obviously falls into this category. I loved watching former Penguins Mike Rupp and Max Talbot. They leave everything on the ice. They aren't cheap players, but will drop the gloves if need be. They're true hockey players.

Unfortunately hockey is like the countries of the world. If one country has nuclear weapons, another country will have them too. Players like Cooke and MacIntyre are the Pens version of nukes. The Flyers have Shelly, Dallas (Fuck them) now has Godard, NYI has Gillies. As long as 1 team has players like these, the rest will.

Exactly... Thats how I feel. I am completely fine with fighting dwindling down, but the physicality can not be lessened. Like I said olympic hockey is great to watch, but meh, I prefer the NHL, I like edgy play. Not cheap shots, just hard hits.

World juniors>>>>Olympics>>>>NHL>>>>AHL>>>>CHL>>>>Beer League>>>>Tim-Bits Hockey>>>>>>>>>>>KHL

I think the Olympics has hard hitting. Just ask Jaromir Jagr. They just cut out the cheap/dirty crap.

The Olympics actually provide a great example of how fighting is not necessary when you have a governing body that strictly enforces the rules and that players take seriously. You don't see much, if any, cheap shots and dirty hits at the Olympics - all without an enforcer roaming the ice.

The funniest part of this thread is eloco thinking he's objective. You're not. If the Pens were celebrating a Matt Cooke cheap shot game, you would have a problem with it.

It's okay though. No one is that objective.

Glad that is the "funniest" part to you. Of course we all have bias. I think I'm aware of mine and try to be as honest as I can. All I can do. You're suggesting I'm being disingenuous. I have a problem with that.

The Isles are not hosting this event. A private business is. They just advertised it to their fans to the best of my knowledge. So, no, if some bar in Pittsburgh wants to have a Matt Cooke night, I'm not going to give a shit b/c I don't live there.

I would have no problem with that. I would have a problem if the organization promoted 'Matt Cooke's Greatest Cheap Shots" at the bar. Discounted shooters of course.

This isn't a cheap shot compilation though. It's a game, that was aired on TV. There is nothing wrong with promoting it.

Pfft, Pens fans, always getting butthurt over shit.

It was legal... Still an intentional blow to the head with intent to injure = scumbag piece of shit. And if you guys wanted to use that game to promote your next season, have fun. Just makes me hate the Pens even more, but I couldn't care less.

I never said it really bothered me nor did anyone else really. It seems like the same deal, it might makes us hate them more and most are voicing it as a classless move. That is all, not exactly "butt hurt"

I am not debating that, just trying to show my perspective. Keep last seasons highlights on DVR, the repeat aint happening!

You are not aware of it though. Just by saying that you are aware of it doesn't make it true. There is no way in hell you can possibly get me to believe that you wouldn't have a problem with it if the Penguins endorsed a viewing party with the Savard hit game (and that was one cheapshot, not multiple). Everyone here is just too PC and doesn't want to start anything so they're saying, "Oh yes eloco, I can see are not being biased in this thread because you said you're not being biased in this thread."

And to people dumbly suggesting this is all about the actual victory rather than the violence...who are kidding? I'll just think you're trying to rationalize your beliefs because I can't honestly believe anyone is that stupid. The Isle fanbase was thrilled after this game and it wasn't because just the score.

Go watch what happened to Tangradi again as I think people are just ignoring it because it's some prospect and not a Savard-type player.

If the B's want to repeat, I'd suggest wrapping up playoff series before they get to game 7...

You callin me dumb? Don't make me come to Shittsburgh and give you a noogie. The score is def something to revel in, but yes the violence is for sure what they are celebrating. And yes, you as Pens fans, have the right to be pissed, but the NHL should have no right to step in and cock block it. Let the Isles do what they want, settle it on the ice.

Thats how I see it anyways.

Finishing 3rd in the Conf with the injuries leads me to believe they have a shot.

It is tough to settle something on the ice when one team has no prospect in making the playoffs. Obviously they are not worried about suspension since their season is over before it starts because they are that bad. It isnt like the Pens can call up a bunch of goons and throw away 2 points to send a message. And yes I know they won....

I know... There was a lot of minor heart attacks I suffered. Being at game 7 against the Habs, I don't think I ever felt that pain in my stomach before. It literally hurt going into OT.

Yeah, I don't think the NHL should be involved here. I'm just saying I doubt the calvalry would be here to defend the Penguins if they were doing the exact same thing. Let's just all admit that the reason this is fun for some people is because it's a crap team vs. a team they don't like. Which is fine. But less rationalizing.
