I love it... I could watch the Bruins/Stars game from last season over and over again.

edit: As long as concussions and cheap shots aren't involved. The Bruins/Stars game was just straight up toe to toe hockey (if that even makes sense), respectful fighting.

That Bruins vs Canadiens game with all the fights & goals was the best game I saw all season.

That was truly awesome... But the first two minutes to that Stars game was just lights out in favor of the Bruins. If you are referencing the 7-0 ass kicking we gave to the Habs, I was there :D. I was also there for game 7 in the QF's :D. I think I should go to every B's/Habs game in Boston.

edit: oh nm, I know which one you're talking about. The one where TT and Price "fought", that was a shit show in favor of the B's as well. That 7-0 win was clinical though. Habs were just shut down with textbook hockey. I loved being at that one.

The game was in Montreal. There were like 13 or 14 goals & the penalty boxes had 4 or 5 guys in them on a regular basis for 3 periods. It was great!!

T.J. Oshie > Sidney Crosby

I remember that post! I want to say back at the swamp a year or two ago someone made that comment, along with some other reasons the Blues were as good as the Penguins. Well, assuming that we're talking about the same poster.

Yea, I remember now after I posted that. That was a great one.

Lol, wasn't me. I posted on ESPN for like a day and Tox saved me. I just like Oshie and thought it was funny.

Well Sidney Crosby & David Perron can certainly compare notes.

I don't think it's the same at all. Matt Cooke lays dirty hits on people on the regular and has shown no regard for the well being of fellow hockey players for years. This game was partly a retaliation to previous games and a reputation the Pens roster and style promoted. Now I'm not suggesting the Isles were clean - the sucker punch on Talbot was shitty, but he also wasn't injured in the game - but there was some motivation for what they did that was supplied by the Penguins. The Isles also won the game 9-3. It's not like Cooke went out and scored a hatty and had 5 points in any of his games. If the Isles lose this game 4-2, they aren't having viewing parties.

Sorry to jump back in the thread. It's been a busy work day. I do want to address this and give some insight into my perspective.

Alex Ovechkin plays a style that's very aggressive. He's not a goon like Cooke, certainly doesn't have the same track record, but has had some questionable incidents. Some of which have rivaled some of Cooke's.

Think back to the knee-on-knee hit with Gonchar a couple of years ago. Why didn't the Penguins do the same? If the Penguins came out the next time they played and Brooks Orpik wanted to settle the score with him in a form of fisticuffs, no problem right? That's how the league works. If they turned it into an all-out brawl including cheap shots and sucker punches, then it's gone too far. Sure, Talbot wasn't severely hurt from the sucker punch, but others were.

My point is the same as the case that the others have made. This isn't an identity that should exist in this sport. You'll always have those idiot fans in your fan base. But when the team promotes the intent to injure other players, they've clearly reached a new low. How would you react if it was your team?

 Not even touching that one.

They aren't promoting the intent to injure here. They are promoting their fans gathering and getting excited about Isles' hockey. I would care about the game itself and the fallout from that, but not whether a network in another city wants to rebroadcast the game or whether some fans in another city want to gather to watch it. That's up to them.

I want the league to do more to prevent this and the punishment to be more severe. Until that happens, fans gathering to watch a bunch of fighting or a graceful 5-0 victory without a penalty is up to them.

The comparison between Cooke and OV's history wasn't about Ovechkin doing anything worse, just that there have been some incidents deemed 'unnecessary.' Not saying that he ever ended a career on a meaningless play.

As far as what the team has promoted, let's call a spade a spade. Was the big story about the game the 9-3 finish or the fighting?

If this was in addition to a handful of other Isles wins that they're showing, then it's no big deal. That's not the case here though.

I'm kind of surprised at the reaction to this, I didn't realize that Pens fans were still up in arms over this game. I don't think it is a big deal at all.

In fact if the Stars wanted to promote a viewing party for the ignorant, slack jawed, inbread, festering sore of humanity that they call a fan base and show a game where they beat up the Sharks I would be fine with it. It's a game, they enjoyed it, it doesn't hurt anyone.

To each his own...Tangradi's attack was something that shouldn't be celebrated, and to think most arent offended is shocking to me.

I was fine with most of the game. The Gillies attack makes me ill. It makes me want to rip his face off. And the fact that a fanbase will be cheering for that again ticks me off. I'm a little more okay with it now because I see that the Isles aren't *hosting* it persay, just mentioning that it's occurring. Still don't necessarily agree with it though. Just my opinion though.

It's not like the Penguins are high & mighty when it comes to cheapshots. They do have Matt Cooke after all. I guess Mario forgot that he played with one of the dirtiest hockey players to ever live. His name is Ulf Samuelsson. I imagine they still want to hang him in effigy in Boston.

When the Penguins throw a party to celebrate their cheap shots, let me know. ;)

They aren't celebrating "cheap shots" though. A cheap shot or tow may have taken place. That was just a beatdown that the Pens could not handle. They have every right to revel in that victory, and they will.

Honestly, I've just kind of caught myself in making a bigger deal out of this than it is. It really isn't that big of a deal, but what did get on my nerves was the Matt Cooke argument. It a different scenerio as the Penguins organization and fans do not endorse or promote the actions he's known for. This struck me as an incident in which the organization is condoning it.

Oh well.
