It is a tough stretch for sure, but I think the middle of the 2001 schedule was harder, the middle of 1983 was the hardest, IMO. 1983- at BC with Flutey, sPitt at home, VPI at home, then at PSU, then at Miami!!! THAT is a tough stretch, and WVU went 3-2!!!!
Without question, this is the toughest 4 game stretch in Mountaineer Football history.
Kind of interesting to look back, ranked teams from the past… Miami, VT, BC, Pitt, PSU… all suck now. Also of interest, the greatest run of WVU's occurred when they faced no more than 3 ranked teams in any season. All of those 9-4 records some posters on here love to brag about… were against just as weak schedule strengths.
And, some go on to say the Big 12 was no harder than the BE…
This is a very tough stretch; but it is not a slam dunk.
In 1986, WVU went 4-7.
They played, in order...
At Pitt... The game before this 4 game stretch.
At #20 Virginia Tech
Vs. #2 Miami
Vs. #19 Boston College
At #1 Penn St.
All these ranking are end of season... Four straight ranked teams. Preceded by a rivalry game. Very, Very similar.
When the FINAL end of season rankings come out we will see what it looks like. Guys like to use the ranking at the time of the game when it suits them, even though that team may get up to a #2 ranking, then lose three straight, ala USF a few years back, and end up outside looking in. I think the 1980s were our toughest schedules bar none!!!!
