You think he is on the short list of young coaches. He is in the Big 12 currently but I dont know if he is the right man for the job. Seems to lose when the chips are on the line and thats not a good trait.

I would be looking at an FCS power that has a good young coach or one of the non-AQ schools that has recent success for a young gun that could come in and bring some high energy to the program.

I certainly wouldnt be looking at paying an outrageous price for a hired gun to come in for a year or three, only to have to look again in a short time.

Gundy with a top flight DC would be a winning combination. I am a little concerned with his recruiting ability though. His program has been top 15 for 5 years now and he has yet to ever pull a top 15 class. They have very good facilities in Stillwater too. Pickens did a nice Phil Knight impersonation there. No reason he shouldn't occasionally pull top classes in considering his ability to get guys drafted high and the winning pedigree he has developed there. Kinda strange...

I love that it bothers OU and aggy so much that Texas is a top coaching job. It bothers them to hear us say it and it bothers them to know it's true. I don't think it is arrogance at work here, it is frustration that only 1 coach in all our history has been able to bring out the best in Texas as a program.

It's frustrating as fans, alums, and boosters that we do our part giving our athletic department every imaginable advantage they can dream up and we have 1 national title in 40+ years to show for it. We are bragging on what we helped build (no matter how small the contribution). An athletic monetary giant. What do we have to show for it currently? A mediocre football program, a mediocre basketball program bordering on bad, and a declining baseball program making it's way into the mediocre category with the other two. Now it's our turn to brag about what this school and city have to offer to a new coach so that we can hopefully have something worth cheering about again. If you don't want to hear about it DONT CLICK A LINK ABOUT TEXAS!!!

Funny that Texas has so many fans that can't read. Where has "aggy" been denying that Texas is a top destination?

But that was a good rant. I give it a 4/10, deduct points for relevancy and originality.

You automatically get included in any rant. You should be use to it and it is deserved. Are you denying I can't run over to Texaggy.com, start a thread saying Texas is no longer a top 3 job in America, and not get dozens of posters agreeing with me? Just because you fuckers on SportsHoopla are less delusional doesn't mean I don't get to throw you under the buss too.

From the list of "delusional things people tell themselves to justify a post".

You can look up many lists......Austin has been a top 10 ranked city by Forbes and other publications for most of the last decade.

Once again......you guys either haven't been paying attention, or your homerism won't allow you to see what many people already do.

It's not delusion when a national publication has promoted this for over a decade.

I don't think Gundy would be a bad choice.......every coach is only as good as his staff. If he gets the right staff, he could be a great hire.

This was a tongue and cheek comment to draw some ire from fans.

Reality says that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and city life may not be to everyone's liking. Some people actually like small town living, me being one of them, and that traffic and hectic lifestyle that comes with a city can be a it draining. City life is not everyone's cup of tea.

Yeah because its so much better to look at hiring a coach who is 2 months younger than the coach you are getting rid of for possible instant wins but a departure in a few years in favor of bringing in a coach who could potentially be there for 15-20 years.

I am sure glad you arent in the hiring process either. Money sense is all i am about and it makes more sense to hire a guy who has some record of success, but it going to have longevity than a guy who can come in and right the ship(possibly) but will leave you in a hiring mode again in a couple of years. Smart money is on the longer term guy, but i guess smart money and coach hiring may not be in the same sentence at Texas huh? that is according to you.

That's why Austin is in these lists......because it isn't big city life. It's small college town life with big city perks. Great restaurants, lots of things to do, great place to raise kids, lots of top employers, low cost of living.......and a culture unique to the city. ACL, SXSW, etc......lots of opportunities.

Making up words.

I was mostly laughing at your comment that Texas should hire somebody from the FCS ranks. It was too ridiculous to not respond.

And still may not be someone cup of tea, is that so hard to see.

I have friends who lived there for a few years and they didnt like it, but they live in my little small town and they love the laid back atmosphere, and we have plenty withing driving distance to do if thats what we want.

I believe that "to each his own" says it best, but thats just my opinion.

So its impossible for an FCS level coach to make a success of himself and bring life to a program like Texas is your opinion?

I guess that it would be a similar thought process to feel that a college coach could not possibly go from an FBS school in college to an NFL franchise and be a success either. I will inform PC and JH that they need to move back to college immediately in that case.

So, bandwagon, let's just say that when Saban leaves Bama(either for Texas or retires), is Bama going to scour the FCS ranks for a HC?

Hypocrite much? This is rich seeing how Aggy is a major Tshirt fan base today. Best Aggy Tshirt fan quote today: "Mack Brown recruited Manziel to play safety, Sumlin recruited Manziel to play QB"......

Sorry, but that is a no. The greater Austin metro area has 1.8 million. And the city proper has about 850,000.

There is no small college town life in a city of 1.8 million. Hell, Austin proper is bigger than Denver proper and is the 11th largest metro area in the country.

... and it was the previous coach who recruited Manziel to the gaggies.

So, the continuation would be "... but Manziel turned down Sumlin to play for another team."

Dont know what Bill Battle will do, but I know he is Alabama to his core(like Mal Moore was) and will try and find the man who will continue to try and fit the mold of Alabama football. I also know he is a business man and self made millionaire, so he will think like a business man when seeking out this next candidate(and possibly consult Saban for his thoughts on a good hire). One thing I am pretty sure he wont do is find a coach that is 60 plus to come in, he will look for a (possible)long term answer to the coaching hire.

In my estimation to bring in Saban at around 8.5 to 10 mil per plus the staff(all of them) will be a big dollar figure for a short term solution, when a younger coach in the model of a Malzahn or Sumlin can be found(with a bit of hard work) and the new coach could be on the sidelines for years to come, not months to come.

Multiple t-sips grasping at straws. Must be not rustled from people having the nerve to not bow down and say Texas can hire successful coaches from anywhere in the world whenever they want. :noidea:

AUSTIN is the best of both worlds.

At its heart it is a college town.
It has all the funky "Keep Austin Weird" youthful vibe of a college centric town.
But, it is also a big city that has the conveniences and amenities of a population center.

It pulls off the perfect balancing act.

Most big cities have a bunch of pro teams that overshadow the college town.
The college team becomes invisible.

Or conversely the town is too small that the college team is far too important and it becomes a fishbowl. The college team simply dominates every aspect of life.

AUSTIN, TX and COLUMBUS, OH are the only ones who do both very well.

I'm straight, always have been. I'm not chicken shit, like you either.

Are you too afraid to answer any of those questions? Since no, is an easy answer, I'm guessing your answers if you had the confidence to write them down are yes. Of course, I could be wrong and all of the answers might be no, but that would mean you are a phony.

Why doesn't Texas just go after Jimbo Fisher.

Latest rumor was the top 3 targets were Saban, Harabaugh, and Fisher. Nothing like digging deep and looking for that diamond in the rough

Class of 2001.

Now why are you always thinking about, and asking people, if they humped other men or if they "store fluids in mason jars"? My money is that you are into that stuff.
