The fact Ty Cobb is not on everyones list is amazing...He has the highest career batting average ever.. In a 22 yr career. Honus Wagner too... Career .328 BA

He's on my list. He is one of the greatest hitters to ever live.

Wtf? He is not in the discussion. Make a thread about best steroid hitters and he tops the list.

He was also one of the best players in the league before he allegedly used roids. At least thats what his 3 MVPs by the age of 28 say.

Bonds is on the list

You know he only hit over 50 once, right when he was using steroids. Great power hitter, but to go from mid-40's to 73....hahaha. He isn't on the list, end of that discussion.

We should A-Roid on the list too

No, no he's definitely on the list. And speaking of lists, where's the top ten list of hitters better than Barry?

He's a great hitter but its hard for me to take modern day players seriously. I know that's not fair but when I see a hitter like Cabrera, I can't help but wonder if he's juicing.

It's absolutely fair. Far too many fucking meatheads ruining the game.

Um, did you maybe mean his brother Paul? Neither was as good a hitter as Cabrera, but Paul was much better than Lloyd.

Neither was George Brett, Ichiro, Carew and probably a 1/2 dozen other guys on that list.

A hit is a hit bro... I don't take points away for speed.

Actually not all hits are equal...some hits are singles...other hits are doubles, triples or homeruns

Ichiro was primarily a singles hitter...and as great as he was...is only a career .320 hitter and more likely than not that career avg is gonna continue to dip

Edgar Martinez was a career .312 hitter but he did it with a .418 obp and a .515 slug...5 seasons with a 1000 + ops...Ichiro has never once crossed .860

On a list of greatest hitters.. Edgar Martinez is somewhere in the realm of 150... There are so many hitters better than him its not even funny... You might as well of put Victor Martinez in the list... Seriously.. sometimes people try to hard... Miggy isn't there yet and I am a huge fan... if he keeps this up for the next 10 yrs.. he will be there.. not yet...

Cobb
Ruth
Williams
Musial
Gerhig

Top three are pretty much a lock to be on any legit list.. after that.. its all opinion

Well yeah I don't disagree with you but I think he at least intended to put them on his list, whereas I think with Lloyd he just made a mistake and mixed up the brothers (like the HoF Veterans Committee was long rumoured to have done too).

I agree with your list other than I'd put Ruth at one.

Couldn't agree more, but how do we leave Joe Jackson & Rogers Hornsby off the list?

What should I look at that would suggest this? I'm having trouble finding even a single offensive statistic where he places that badly. Total hits is one I guess (he's 164th) but one can argue that batting average measures the same skill better and he's ranked 95th in that. He ranks 95th, 20th and 69th all-time in the basic triple slash categories, and there are somehow 150 hitters that were better? I get the general sense of what you're trying to say here, but you're exaggerating the point quite a bit.

Replacing who?

I must have missed where this became name the top five, why do they have to replace anyone? I just think if you are talking greatest hitters of all time Hornsby and Jackson need to be on the list.

Why not something like this...

1. Ruth
2. Williams
3. Cobb
4. Gehrig
5. Musial
6. Hornsby
7. Jackson

Works for me...
