Here is some unsolicited free advice:

Just stop the act.

Most of us have been posting here for many years. We come here to chop it up, talk basketball and of course for the spirited debate. Most of the regulars here have quite profound NBA knowledge.

Many of us have been here long enough to see quite a few know it all newbs like you enter, spin around like crazy pissing people off before eventually getting booted.

You clearly have some knowledge. But you don’t know nearly as much as you think.

Want to discuss basketball? Welcome.

Want to act like you are somehow superior to everyone else here and like your word is gospel truth?

You won’t last 2 months.

Gain some humility and maybe you can learn a thing or two from the experienced people here.
Perfectly worded.

You are missing the point. Gretzky was very close to being a religious figure in Canada. He still is, to some degree. And Pocklington sold him for financial reasons.

You're missing my point. The Gretzky move was shocking, but at least Edmonton got adequate reimbursement. The Mavs did not.

Here's the inside scoop:

Jerry Jones, tired of being labeled the stupidest GM in all of sports, bribed Nico Harrison to make this trade so that he would be called the stupidest GM in all of sports.

Trading Luka was pretty stupid. Trading him without offering him to any other team than the Lakers is gross incompetence.

Indeed. There is no telling the haul of young players and picks they could have landed. And I actually think if they wait till he had signed the Super Max contract, he would have brought even more because the team acquiring him would know he's wrapper up for 5 years

To me, an NFL equivalent to this trade would be giving up 24 year old Jayden Daniels for 30 year old T.J..Watt. There's no debating how great a player Watt is, but that's a trade you could never consider making

There are maybe 4 guys in the NBA that you would trade Luka for straight up. AD ain't one of them. He's too old and too fragile and doesn't want to play the position he's best suited for.

You HAVE to get picks plus an all-star level player if you are Dallas. They have now relegated themselves to being a top 4 team in the West that can't beat the top team, barring a massive number of injuries.

What people are failing to realize.....Nico clearly wanted AD and has apparently for several years.

That's why they didn't open it up to a bidding war. He wanted him.

He is 25 and led them to the Finals last year. Really no idea what you are babbling about
They most likely weren't returning to the Finals this year though.

And you just got a great PF in AD who will probably average 28-30ppg, 12-13rpg, and 2-3bpg.....Irving has been on a NBA winner and I bet he feeds AD like crazy now. He has never had a big like AD. I am sure he was a little disappointed when Luka got traded because they became good friends but he is now the Alpha on this team (AD isn't and never will be that, I think that's why Rob was okay with trading him) but I bet this rejuvenates him a little.

Playing with a big like AD can elongate his career.

Most of you ought to start demonstrating that knowledge, if you expect to be able to claim it publicly. Yourself in particular, as your comments have been embarrassingly ignorant of basketball history.

Many of us have been here long enough to see quite a few know it all newbs like you enter, spin around like crazy pissing people off before eventually getting booted.

I'm quite sure that I've been talking basketball -- and many other things -- on the Internet for at least as long. More to the point, the fact that many of you have been hanging around an echo chamber and not learning anything from each other, due to the exceedingly low quality of your comments, does not help you much.

Want to discuss basketball? Welcome.

That is precisely what I am doing -- except when I am forced to reply to ad hominem attacks like this one from people who are embarrassed to realize that I know an order of magnitude more than they do.

How about you stick to discussing basketball? Or better yet, listen and learn.

You won’t last 2 months.

I might not -- I had much higher hopes for the quality of discourse here. I had even thought maybe I wound find people capable of honest debate at a high level, but if those exist here, they are awfully quiet. Perhaps they were shouted down by the ignorant few and their personal attacks on people, and their mothers, which you apparently refer to as "talking basketball".

Da Fuck you talkin' about?. I did look it up just to confirm my memory:

You replied to comment about the Abdul-Jabbar trade with a link about the first Davis trade. So "da fuck you talkin' about?"

See if you can straighten out your story, and explain what point you were attempting to make.

They decided to go short term clearly, sometimes teams do that, push their chips in.
Nico said it himself. "Not worried about 10 years, I won't be here."

He clearly is going all in on this move for the next 3-4 years and has said he wants to build a certain culture in Dallas. I interpret that as guys like AD, PJ Washington, Lively, Gafford, etc. Physical players that rebound and defend.

Irving, AD, and Klay can score. They are probably going to play a lot more half court ball in the playoffs and can still shoot with with Irving, Klay, and Washington in the starting lineup. If Washington isn't moved to the bench, which might be something they do. Use him as a super sub.

Again, credible sources say that an unknown team passed on the offer to acquire Doncic.

His value is not as high as some people here believe.

I'm a big UK fan which means AD is one of my all time favorite players. But it's a ridiculous trade my guy. If AD were 25 years old as well, this would be a fair deal. AD is almost 32 big men with injury histories don't end well. Luka is actually a guy I could see dominating into his late 30's. Players who are dominant in part because of great athleticism always lose a step. Luka's old man game will play a long time. And he is so competitive that I think Nick has done him a favor because I think next season you'll see Luka come in around 230 and in great shape

If this was a Fantasy Basketball trade, the Commissioner would step in due to collusion. The trade reeks of 2 GMs conspiring. Either Harrison lost a bet to Pelinka and he is honoring his bet or Pelinka found some serious dirt on him and is holding it over his head ready to expose it to the world.

@tc1 here is the article I was referencing in regard to the Kareem trade. Timer ran out before I could post it.

Thanks for sharing that, man. Perfectly captures what was happening at the time.

This trade was not straight-up. Dallas got to lose 2 negative assets, and Los Angeles included a first, and a player that is more valuable than a first -- as I previously noted. Most draft picks do not wind up becoming better players than Max Christie is right now, and he's only 22 and on a great contract. Every team in the league is seeking young, solid, cheap wings, and that appears to be precisely what Christie is.

You HAVE to get picks plus an all-star level player if you are Dallas. They have now relegated themselves to being a top 4 team in the West that can't beat the top team, barring a massive number of injuries.

They were 13-9 with Doncic. "Top 4" would be an improvement. That winning percentage would make them #6 right now. They were the #5 seed last year. They missed the playoffs entirely the previous year.
