Is It Crazy To Think That Nabby Could End Up In Washington?

Why would the Capitals want a 34 year old goalie who's been on very talented teams that have choked in the playoffs on more than a couple of occasions? The Sharks should have kept Kiprusoff.

I think they stick with Varlamov & Neuvirth or if they want a vet give Turco a call. He's actually said he wants to go to Washington.

This is much more realistic IMO. D first, then maybe goalie.

I think I already gave a few reasons above and a change of scenary might be just what he needs?

After all, the Caps don't have Thornton. :D

Is it possible in regards to the cap situation for the Caps? Sure. Will we see any movement from the Caps at goalie in 2010? Very unlikely. Do I sometimes like to respond by using questions that I answer? Yes.

I think only injury or mediocre/bad play from both the youngsters (Varlamov and Neuvirth) would get the Caps going on the goalie front. And this would be a midseason move, not an offseason move. Varly has shown flashes of brilliance (guy has Hasak-like scrambling abilities) and Neuvirth has shown he can be steady (a la his style which is positioning) and clutch (back-to-back Calders). So I don't think goalie is even on their radar screen right now. And if they feel their needs are adequate at goalie and they are spending just over $1 million on both goalies, this leaves money to address other needs and more time for assessment. Varly is VERY, VERY popular with the fans in Washington and if he stays healthy, I think there is a strong belief in the organization that he can get the job done.

The word out of the GM's office is that our priorities are (1) a second line center and (2) defensive depth. I'd personally like to see those reversed (this offense did pretty well this year w/out a great 2nd line center, no?), but that seems to be the priority.

Personally, I think that goalie play is a little overrated in that what you really need in the playoffs is a "hot" goalie more than a "great" goalie. Weren't their questions about Niemi and the Philly goalie situation all year long? Those teams did okay.

Getting a goalie would pinch the cap situation, which is going to be an issue in 2011-2012 more than next season. So I think the Caps are in wait and see mode until calendar 2011 and I'd say there is little chance they'll do much then either. If they did, I'd guess we're looking at a one-year contract or trade for a guy whose contract expires before 2011-2012.

Perhaps it is more likely that Nabby goes the way of the KHL? With the success of teams with younger, lower paid goalies, and the fact he'll be 35, maybe no one in the NHL that's a contender will give him a shot?

Nabby to Washington is a fantastic idea. In fact I think that the caps should trade for his rights. A mid level prospect and a pick would be great, thanks. :)

Michael Nylander. Unless the caps can his cap hit off the books with something similar to last year, I don't see it possible to get both the D help and Nabby

can't they just waive him and bury him in the minors again?

well to my understanding, which is probibly wrong, It was only a one year thing. They'd have to work it out w/ Grand Rapid Griffins, but he was reassigned from Grand Rapids to Jokerit (SM-liiga), which I really don't understand. So they can, it's a matter of if someone will take him.

Not only is it possible, but my sources (for what irt is worth) are telling me that it is actually a very big possibility now. It would be a one year deal, at a premium price and would leave Neuvirth down in Hershey where he can play every day. With Hamhuis and Volchenkov off of the radar, this may be one of the first moves of free agency. Also, the Nylander cap room issue is looking more promising....apparently :)

Apparently there is a stipulation in his no movement clause that could allow for him to be assigned to the AHL and not be a cap hit but the details are still sketchy.
