Is It Crazy To Think That Nabby Could End Up In Washington?

Nabby wants to be on a contender, and he could be a great addition to a team like the Caps.

Theodore was making 4.5 mil last season and is a UFA. Let him walk and sign Nabby. He's a proven goalie with PO experience and can be a great mentor for Varlamov. He could be a very important missing piece for the Caps to really make a run for the Cup?

I don't see why this couldn't happen, but some say it's crazy and will never happen.

I would agree with you except the Caps have an awesome goalie on the way named Michael Neuvirth. He was a huge reason the Hershey Bears won back to back Calder Cups and believe me, he really was. I have been to plenty of Bears games over the last couple years since I basically live right in Hershey.

I suspect Neuvirth and Varlamov will split the duties next year.

I just think with the way the Caps are setup right now, and addition like Nabby at goal would be a great idea. The Caps would get a Vezina caliber goalie with plenty of experience in the PO's, and can really help Varly come along and improve his game.

Neuvirth can stay down for another season and keep playing. Then by the time Nabby moves on you will have Varly take over and be a mentor to Neuvirth.

I say the Caps pull the trigger now, or they might regret it.

With the cap taking an increase of over 3 mil and letting Theodore walk away, I don't see how it wouldn't be possible for the Caps to sign Nabby, and get their other FA's signed as well?

and goalies stats are a result of the defense. look at backstrom when he was in a defensive system. good defenses makes goalies look better. i am not saying nabokov and backstrom are bad, i am just saying that why have a good goalie if your defense is bad? even the best goalies would look bad with a bad defense.

Michael Nylander. Unless the caps can his cap hit off the books with something similar to last year, I don't see it possible to get both the D help and Nabby

I thought Nylander had a salary of 5.5 mil last season, and will only be getting 3 mil this year before becomming a UFA in 11/12?

EDIT: Just saw that the cap hit for 10/11 would be 4.875 mil.

I don't know, maybe I'm crazy, but I can see Washington going for it. I guess I will have to wait to see how it plays out.

Why would the Capitals want a 34 year old goalie who's been on very talented teams that have choked in the playoffs on more than a couple of occasions? The Sharks should have kept Kiprusoff.

I think they stick with Varlamov & Neuvirth or if they want a vet give Turco a call. He's actually said he wants to go to Washington.
