With his retirement announcement, I was wondering what baseball fans in general thought. Giants fans are pretty unanimous, I think, in saying that he is. But is that overly homeristic, or is it realistic?
As it stands now, he is #11 in all time wins at 1926, 82 behind #10, Leo Durocher. Every manager with more wins than him is already in the Hall. He is 3-1 in the World Series.
However, his regular season win percentage is only .498 (160th among managers with at least 315 games - 324 managers). He did manage the Padres for 12 years, though, and came to Giants just in time for the post-Barry years.
