Think we all saw this (Irvin leaving) as inevitable. Sounded like he wanted quite a bit of money and Seattle just can't pony up at the position, especially when he's being used quite a bit in coverage or zone. Seattle's pass rush really comes from the front 4 and DE position.

Looks like Seattle's draft will be defense and O-Line heavy.

The only surprising part is the Oakland destination. I'm not sure if this alters the draft at all. I've heard guys on the radio say the Hawks viewed the SAM as the least important position on the defense, which tells me they probably feel they can replace from within or with a lower cost free agent. We are also at the leading edge of free agency, so we could potentially be losing a bunch of other players too.

If Oakland sends him at the QB more he will get more sacks.... Irvin has that edge speed...

4 yr. $37 million. Seahawks were never going to be able to match something like that (nor should they have). Best of luck to him.

Looks like his cap hit this year is 12.5, after that rather reasonable.

Yeah - instead of an $8 million signing bonus - Oakland used a $6 million & $2 million guaranteed roster bonus. I'm not sure I've seen that before.Though, they could trade him tomorrow and it wouldn't cost them a penny.

Yeah I agree they could trade or drop him without much pain. A $2.5 cap hit for 2017.

My thought is they'll use him like Aldon Smith until Smith returns and then use them both in sets, etc. In a passing down situation having Smith/Irvin/Mack all on the field at the same time could be insane. Also insurance if Smith goes nuts again.
