The Niners are fresh off the division-wining game in Seattle and the Commies are fighting for their playoff lives after losing to the Giants at home. Vegas has the Niners as 7pt favorites.

The Commies have a good running game with Robinson and Gibson, who have combined for more than 1,000 yards already. However, the Niners have the #1 run defense in the league. So this will be strength against strength with the Niners having an advantage.

The Washington offense is 25th in scoring, so this plays into the Niners' hands. However, their passing game has become more efficient with Heinicke at QB than it was with Wentz. And Terry McLauin is a legit #1 WR with the rookie Dotson showing a lot of promise this season. They can get deep and make big plays. The issue they have in the passing game is protection. Their OL is a bit shaky. They gave up 8 sacks in 2 games to the NYG. The Niner pass rush should be licking their chops, but will Moonie Ward clear concussion protocols to play in the game to help slow down Scary Terry?

The strength of Washington is their top 10 defense. They are 9th in scoring defense and 4th in yards allowed. The strength of the Defense is the Dline. Allen and Payne at DT are playing at a PB level. Payne in particular is blowing up, have registered 8.5 sacks. Sweat at DE has another 7 sacks. And that is all without Chase Young playing (ACL recovery). He might make his season debut against SF. I would expect misdirection and other tricks in the running game to take advantage of the aggressive front 4.

The commies have a top 10 pass defense and a stout front 4, so Purdy will be facing quite a challenge this week.

Washington is at an additional disadvantage in this game b/c they played Sunday night and now have to cross the country to play on the West coast on a short week for the Saturday game.

Well, what do we think about this one? A Niner win or a let down game?

Washington played a late Sunday game which is similar to TB coming off a Monday game. Although a smaller factor, add their travel across the US. Not predicting a 35-7 win, but a win nevertheless.

This is the game where Purdy continues to 'sharpen' his timing on passes. Since he doesn't have a strong arm, he needs to make up for it with timing. This is the game where he starts to throw it away early and slide early/OB if he takes off. Don't see anymore games that will 'test' Purdy, until the first play-off game.

This is also the game where JP Mason gets opportunities earlier than the last two minutes. We're not going to run him much more but insert him earlier in the game.

Yep, this will be the best defense Purdy has faced yet. A good test to get him ready for the playoffs.

I still can't believe Mason hasn't gotten more carries to this point. He's produced every time he's been on the field. Hopefully, you're right and we see him earlier in this game to spell CMC and do more of the heavy lifting.

Don't know if Mason can catch reasonable well or not, but if so give him FEW out of the backfield. If he can go just outside the tackles, try a FEW of those too.

This is the time to find out what he can do besides running between the tackles. Not that i want them to change his best runs, but enough so that defenses don't just stack the line.

STill no word on whether DE Chase Young will make his debut against the Niners this week or not. He'd make an already tough Washington defense even better.

Reports are now in that Young will make his debut versus the Niners. That just adds another pass rusher to the Commanders already great Dline.

Niners have activated DT J.Kinlaw for the Commanders game. That's a big move for the Niners. He's missed 12 games with a knee injury. Let's see if his knee will hold up. He would be a big boost for the interior DLine if he can play.

we'd better hope that C. Ward and Mason can play. Both are listed at questionable for the game.

Yes, try out Kinlaw's knee and if it doesn't hold up, don't force. I would think he'll be on a pitch count anyway?

Well, the Niners won. really, the team won the 2nd half and that was enough.

In the first half, Purdy was 4 of 9 for barely 60yds and 1 INT. It was a bad first half for him even though the INT was entirely Jennings's fault for bobbling a good pass way up into the air. But the 2nd half was an entirely different story. He was 11 of 13 for 179, 2TDs and no picks. A perfect passer rating too. An amazing 2nd half. Several times he avoided the rush (something we didn't really see out of Jimmy). FInished the game with 15 of 22 for 234yds, 2 TDs and 1 INT.

The runningh game was stifled in this game. Washington often went with 8 and 9 in the box and the Niners just coudln't run well against that. CMC averaged 3.1ypc and TDP averaged 3.3ypc. WE had just enough burst running to keep the chains moving here and there. McLoud had 1 carry for 71yds and a TD. It was a very Deebo like play. For the most part, Washington was VERY good at stopping the run. CMC never had a longer run than 9yds and TDP never had a better run than 7.

Kittle had 6 catches for 120 and 2TDs. The man was unstoppable. Both in routes and run after the catch. Aiyuk had 5 catches for 81yds including a 54yd catch and run that led to a FG. Kittle's first TD should have gone to RayRay as he was running a post on the play was PUrdy's pass would've hit him in the head.
--Jennings had a couple of blocks downfield on the long runs, but he bobbled a slant throw that led to an INT.

The OL was ok at best. Couldn't open consistent holes in the running game and gave up several sacks and even more pressures. McGlinchey had 2 false starts in the redzone and Banks had a holding call that eliminated a 3rd down conversion. Even TW got beat on rushes in this game. The Washington DLine is for real. I hope we don't see them in the playoffs.

The DLine for the Niners did a very good job. The Washington running game had 33 carries for 79yds. The did not abandon the running game, but they didn't get any real yardage either. The DLine managed 3 sacks, 2 from Bosa and 1 from Willis, with both having 2 or 3 BARELY missed sacks. Willis had a very good game playing in place for Jackson.
--Kinlaw had a nice game in his limited snaps.
--Armstead had several pressures that were near sacks. His play was underappreciated.

Greenlaw dropped an INT. Warner had 8 solo tackles to add on. The CBs had a poor game. Ward was ok in converage, but Lenoir was picked on a lot. That's why he ended up with the 2nd most tackles. When Ward left, his replacement, Womack, gave up a long catch quickly.

Hufanga gave up a TD and nearly another one to go with a dropped INT. He had a very poor game. Gipson also dropped an INT, but he was better in coverage. Ward got an INT that really helped change the game.

It was nice to come out with a win, but I do not want to see the Skins again the playoffs. They are very balanced with talented RBs and WRs. That is hard to handle and it took a great 2nd half from the Niner defense to pull out a win.

Clearly, both the offense and the defense made great 2nd half adjustments to get the win. The Washington defense was for real. Now we're still 1 game behind Minny and still hoping they lose just 1 game. From here we're looking at the Raiders and Cards. Both teams are dead from the playoffs and the Niners can't really be hurt by losing to either, but the Raider game is eomethiong the team should win. The Cards are wounded and injured and down their best players on offense and defense.

Well, what did ya'll think about the game?

Good game because Shannahan showed he'll go to the pass if you put 8-9 in the box. The offense showed they can be balanced and adjustable to the what the D is doing. Hopefully, it doesn't take an entire half to adjust but in this game it was ok. :-)

Hufanga is a boom or bust and lately its more 'bust'. He's depending a lot on the pressure to get home, which is obviously dangerous against Mahomes or Allen. I'd think even Hurts and Prescott can hurt you if you bite down low? Anyway, most times the pressure DOES bother the QB so don't think DeMeco will 'tone him down'. Bosa is obviously the key no matter, on one hand we don't want to push him these next two games however, you need to give him a shot at the sack record. If he can get 2 on Sunday you have to let him go all game against Arizona, or until he gets it.

Also good that Kittle is being showcased now, Safeties can't just fly to the outsides. To some extent, even LBs will have to think that split second too, in case Kittle sneaks out.

Jauan Jennings does a good job blocking downfield. That isn't on the stat sheet but you see it on highlights.
