I'm gonna be a homer in this one, but I have to pick it to be a close game. Go Hawks!

If Nebraska loses, I will be shocked because we usually don't go out and play poorly after we get embarrassed. HOWEVER, if we beat Iowa, I wouldn't be surprised if we get smacked in the bowl game we go to because we look so good against Iowa.

Here's what I think the 3 Keys to win the game are for both teams.

Iowa

Offense: Hold on to the ball. Do not turn it over, especially on Iowa's side of the field. Iowa has struggled with that. However, when they don't turn it over, they are very competitive.

Defense: Contain the gaps and outside. DL should not rush at Martinez in the pocket unless they are certain they can get him down. Whenever Iowa's DL rushed at scrambling QBs this year, they just avoid the tackle, and get outside. They contained Persa and Denard Robinson pretty good.

Special Teams - Instead of hitting the upright, kick the ball between the uprights. It was a costly mishap against Minnesota. It could very well be a costly mishap aganst Nebraska.

Nebraska

Offense - Get the run game going. Burkhead is a good running back. If Nebraska can run the ball, Iowa usually ends up leaving the pass open. But if Burkhead or Martinez does good with the run, Iowa's defense will struggle.

Defense - Pressure Vandenberg. McNutt is one of the best WRs in the Big Ten. This is his 3rd year doing it too. He will make plays. However, when Vandenberg has been pressured, he throws to one person, covered or not. Usually, the pass is off target. So, pressuring Vandenberg helps cover McNutt.

Special Teams - Honestly, I don't know much about this for Nebraska. Don't give Iowa returners room to run. Iowa is not very good at KR, but if you give Hyde room to run, he will get the ball to midfield.

Nebraska was a Top 10 team going 10-2. Io
Iowa was one of the worst teams in the nation going 3-9.

Hopefully this first game is a lot more competitive than it was then. Nebraska won 42-13.

Funny, I had a husker fan friend of mine say he was more confident in ISU winning against OU than NU beating Iowa. Have you huskers jumped ship already?

I just hope Iowa's defense doesn't get too aggressive with Martinez. What has worked well with scrambling QBs this season is just stay at the gap and if he starts to show signs of scrambling, pop into the gap. Unless they had a guaranteed shot at hitting him, when they would rush the QB, he would find a way to miss and the QB would scramble out.

And Iowa needs to hold on to the ball. Turnovers have killed Iowa this season. It definitely did against Michigan State, and MSU took advantage of every one.

Defense - Pressure Vandenberg. - They haven't really done this, but Nebraska is covering the receivers pretty goo in the 1st half.
