The Flyers now have 4 Players from the 2003 NHL Draft who were picked in the 1rst round:
Zherdev#4 overall-drafted by CBJ
Coburn#8 overall-drafted by ATL
Carter#11 overall- drafted by PHI
Richards#24 overall- drafted by PHI

We also have:
Matt Carle#47 overall..-drafted by SJ
Dan Carcillo#73 overall-drafted by PIT

Former Flyer Lasse Kukkonen was also drafted in the 2003 draft, #151 overall-CHI.. Holmgren and Clarke must have really liked that draft class..

If you read it over, you will realize we could have had Getzlaf, Parise, Perry, or Kesler before Carter.. There are also some steals late in the draft like Joe Pavelski in the 7th round.

2003 was the best draft class since '79, and depending who you talk to, of all time.

Except for Hugh Jessiman. lol.

well a lot of team could have had getzlaf. i think the flyers thought carter would be a little tougher as far as being physical.

although zherdev has a ton of skill and i think might really surprise people.

Yep and he won't be relied upon to be the guy with a target on his back....he may just light it up on the right line. I can easily see 30 goals out of him.

I agree. With a lot less pressure he very well could put up some nice numbers.

I think I guessed 28 in a thread. I like your prediction better though. :)

Even if he's close to Gags production and semi-decent in his own end the saving in cap space is huge...I like the risk.

No doubt! I think Zherdev wants back in the NHL in a bad way and the only way to stay there is to be a positive force on both ends of the ice.

Like others have said here......I think we're going to be surprised by what we see from him this year.

(crosses fingers)

yea and sarah baicker mentioned that he said he is a defensive player now. and nobody asked him about it so i guess he knows that is where he should focus.

same thing as emery though. pick up a guy with talent and use this year as most likely his last chance in the nhl.

And hope he doesn't have a rare medical condition that pretty much destroys his career.

one thing you can say about holmer, regardless of how you view his work, he's starting to acquire younger players. which is good. pronger and timonen being the exception to that. but i view them as much needed wisdom on the blue line. otherwise we are way younger than clarke's teams.
