You can be anything
1st please assume that Indy has the capacity to use Melo however they please with Melo buying in to his rotations, that is the only way this would happen anyways. Worst case scenario you have another Granger contract on the bench. We do not have to assume the impossible that he will play D.
Indy's issue is scoring, their D is phenomenal.
Melo is the absolute opposite but with a lower scoring ceiling.
Could Indy cover up enough of Melo on D to allow for his added scoring power. Would his ball hogging be an issue on O. There does seem to be a trend that players who get more O touches play better D.
The only starting lineup that I would include Melo in is this:
5 Hibbert
4 West
3 Melo
2 George
1 Hill
Defensively I would put Melo on what ever back court player sucked the most excluding PGs. Offensively I would make it very clear that nobody is allowed to pass to Melo until 8 seconds are left on the shot clock. Melo would be pulled the second he took a Defensive assignment off.
As an Indy fan would you consider this risk worth it?
What if he was coming off the bench rather than starting? Basically it would be like Harden when he was on OKC, he would come off the bench and go balls out however he wanted.
