Why should a team get a free time out because there’s two minutes left in a half?

Why does a receiver need two feet in bounds to make a catch, but only one knee or elbow in bounds?

Why is defensive holding a five yard penalty and an automatic first down, but offensive holding is a ten yard penalty and replay the down?

Why does a defensive player get penalized for a face-mask penalty, but a running back can grab a face-mask and rip a defender’s helmet off with no penalty?

1. It's the rule? It is unnecessary really.
2. An elbow or knee means they're already on the ground, makes no sense to make it all about the feet at that point.
3. Defensive holding is the prevention of a pass play that is open-ended (could be a drop, could be a TD), so it's short yardage but a first down. Offensive holding is the prevention of a sack at best in most cases (can't project a TO), so 10 yards is a valid yardage. Live-action penalties that aren't automatic first downs always result in replay the down, other than I think grounding? The grounding penalty might be more questionable IMO.
4. The days of RBs getting away with grasping the facemask on stiff arms are SUPPOSED to be over. Still gets missed at times (just like everything).

theisman dos preseason games for wasington, and romo often calls dallas games.he called the washington/dallas game turkey day and kissed dallas ass so much i muted the sound.
I have not noticed and pro Dallas bias from Romo or Aikman.

you mus not listen cause both heap heavy praise on dallas when they broadcast especially romo.
I’ve noticed that Aikman is often harsher on Dallas. I think he does that intentionally in order to avoid being perceived as having a pro Dallas bias. I see Romo as even keeled.

3) Go to 2 preseason games and an 18 game schedule with 2 bye weeks per team. In this scenario (doesn't apply to point 2 above) I would have the bye weeks by conference. AFC is off week 5 and 11 and NFC is off in weeks 6 and 12 in even numbered years, and just the opposite in odd numbered years.
I think it's just a matter of time, 2-3 years tops, that they'll make it an 18 game schedule. Who knows, we may even see a 20 game regular season schedule at some point down the road.

I see nothing wrong with either of them. I like Aikman because he’s not afraid to call out bad coaching, play or conduct by players. He’s not afraid to criticize poor officiating either. He’s not afraid to tell it like it is.

He’s the exact opposite of that good-hall Chris Collinsworth.

#1 eliminate the chain gang. Why we don't already have some kind of electronic first down marking system is ridiculous. If it's about jobs, give those guys a pension and call it a day.

#2 Eliminate offsetting penalties when the yardage is different. If one team commits a 15-yarder and the other team commits a 5-yarder, then there should be a ten yard gain for the second team.

#3 Contract the Buccaneers

#4 a running clock except for time outs. Games are too long.

#5 Two personal foul penalties should be like getting two yellow cards in soccer. After your second one, you're out, and your team has to play with 10 men for the rest of the game.

#6 Mandatory hook and lateral plays at the end of each quarter

Good suggestions, but the one I really like is #2. It's always bugged me that something like a 5 yard illegal formation can wipe out a 15 yard roughing the passer or even more dramatic a huge pass interference call.

Reviews are 30 seconds. If you can't figure out the call by then, it stands as called. Taking 5 minutes to get 19 angles to see if someone may, or may not, have done XYZ is dumb. If it's that close, call stands, let's move on.

Teams get a cap discount on players they drafted as a reward for drafting well.

I like this. You draft 3 studs because you chose well and you are almost forced to give up at least one down the road.

Personally I'd slit the cap's throat period and drink it's blood... Talk about a flawed socialist mechanism...

I believe the CBA calls for 17 max, so I'm guessing they'll get that in the next CBA. I do also see more international games in more international markets. My guess is Canada, other European countries and then Australia and Japan.

I dont think you can use both penalties.
that would open a Pandora's box on what type of penalty should be worth what type of yards. & create a bunch of other questions or changes wanted.
but I do think personal fouls should trump normal penalties like offsides or illegal formation ensech.

Hands to the face shouldn't be an automatic first down, but defensive holding is different. That is preventing a potential play from happening, and estimating the yard value of that hold could be 5 yards up to a potential TD.

Half the distance is arbitrary, seems meaningless to me.
Defensive holding more often then not would end up stopping nothing. QBs dont even see the WR being held half the time. No guarantee at all any pass is going to be caught either(see Chiefs entire season film).

Defensive holding is often the DB grabbing a receiver that is about to break free. That can be a game-breaking play, or the QB could not even see it. That's why it's only 5 yards, but also brings an automatic first down. Makes perfect sense to me anyway.

Only you. No guarantees of anything so it should not be a guarantee of a first down
