This is why I'm in favor of two separate 8-team playoffs. The G-5 would potentially include these teama...

Army (9-0)
Boise St (9-1)
Jacksonville St (7-3)
Louisiana (8-2)
Marshall (7-3)
Miami (OH) (7-4)
Ohio (8-3)
Tulane (9-2)
UNLV (9-2)

Can't argue with that, and I think we eventually get a split.

Essentially we are nearly to the point of the SEC Champ vs Big 10 Champ for the National Title/College Football Super Bowl. This 12 team playoff is nothing but a band-aid at best. Sure, we may get an upset or two, but Boise State, Miami, BYU or any of the other conference champs outside of the SEC/Big 10 aren't winning 3 straight games against this level of competition.

I have to laugh at the CFB world.

arguing nonstop about playoff rankings.

I remember the last 2-3 years hearing that once we moved to a 12 team playoff that all the problems would be solved. YEs, I did hear that.
16 teams. Why not? 16 teams for sure. The whole thing takes one month, just like March madness

Eh ok fine
Teams 16-20 will then be bitching.

I am looking forward to seeing numerous sec teams having to come north this winter
17-20. Probably. But this is the first year I would have ever watched army vs Notre Dame, strictly due to playoff implications.

Army has followed a familiar pattern - go undefeated against a marshmallow soft schedule and then lose the only game against top level competition.

Indiana is a bit different. They've played well against decent competition and aside from some special team blunders would have been close against Ohio State. OTOH, Ohio State is the only ranked team they've played all year. If they had the schedule of say, Alabama, which included ranked teams Georgia, Missouri, Tennessee and LSU, and filled out with teams like South Carolina and Oklahoma they'd be lucky to come out with only three losses.

Barring a choke against Purdue, the Hoosiers are in the playoff. And they deserve it, an 11-1 Power 4 team definitely belongs in the playoff.
A hell of a lot more deserving than a 9-3 team............
Indiana has had a good year, but you can count their wins against ranked teams on one hand - if that hand has no fingers. They've played one ranked team and lost. Their strength of schedule is 42nd.

Some of the "undeserving" 9-3 teams with far tougher schedules are Alabama (#2 SOS), South Carolina (#5 SOS) and Ole Miss (#7 SOS). If Indiana played a schedule like that they'd do well to be 9-3. Strength of schedule makes a difference.
