I hope so! Peterson has been a joy to watch on the football field and as a football player that is the entirety of which I base him on as a football fan.
I enjoy watching him except when his team is playing against our team.

For Sanders to do what he did on those Lion teams is more impressive to me than what Smith accomplished behind that great 0 line and in that offense. And, Sanders has a far superior average per carry, which is the stat that tells it all.
Sanders was better.

As for Peterson vs. Emmitt, he has a LONG way to go and RB's really often tend to fall off cliffs at the age he's coming into.

Figure he's about 2500 yards and 40 rushing TD's behind Emmitt at the same age. He's a bit behind Edge, Dickerson, LT, Payton, Barry... A few yards above Curtis Martin at this age.

I think that Emmitt was right, IF someone has a chance, it's him, but not likely to happen at all.

If it's 5 years were talking there is basically no chance he gets it unless he does something basically heroic.

But it's gonna depend on how long he hangs on for. If he keeps consistently getting 1,000 yards and finds himself 1,000-1,500 short. He may hang on for years 6 and 7 if he's productive enough.

Guy is a physical freak so the body may be good.

But it's not happening in 5

I broke the career rushing record with Mike Vick playing NFL 2k5 in like 5 seasons.

I chose 5 years because only Marcus Allen has had a season where he gained anything truly descent at the age of 36 or older.

Yup, giving him a max of 5 years left is the only reasonable amount. Expecting 6 or 7 is way too much.

But he's a maniac so general norms don't really apply. We'll see if he's able to do crazy things in his mid 30s and stay til 37ish.

What a shame Barry Sanders retired when he did, I struggle with Emmitt Smith being the rushing king.

No way AP breaks the record or anyone else for a long long time.
I agree. I really don't like Emmitt Smith. It gives him a reason to say he's the best ever, even though he really isn't. Barry and Walter are king, but this dude carries on as the all-time leading rusher because he played a little longer than Barry. I hope AP breaks the record, just to shut Emmitt up.

Well maybe they just extended his career byba year.
Possibly and I hope so, but it was right in his prime. He did still age that year, just not like a RB ages.

Add Jim Brown to that mix......... And I totally agree.

If Barry Sanders had gone to Green Bay he'd have played more years and become the all time rushing champion. It is a pity his talents were wasted in Detroit. Green Bay made a mistake by picking Tony Mandarich ahead of Sanders.

Except that Peterson did not choose to cost himself a year. The league chose that later for him.

And the courts chose to take a drunk drunken drivers license too.
Its not the fault of the driver to drive drunk now was it.

AP won't break the record for the fact he missed a year. And he has no one to blame but himself.
And I see him having a little more dignity than Emmitt and walking away rather than hang on to break records.

Actually it's written down prior. If it wasn't they wouldn't get taken away. Thanks for making a case for Adrian Peterson's year being taken from him by the league.

Yes, it's sloppy use of language.

But it's sloppy use that's common among conservatives, who blame what happens in people's lives on them as consequences of their choices.

And it's sloppy use that's ALSO common among New Age-y Caliornians, or at least was some decades ago when I knew what such folks said.
