yah like Vin Baker and Stevie Franchise and TONS of other guys....Do you think that Mozgov's contract is a validation of his greatness? You think Mike Conley is the 2nd best player in the history of the NBA? He has the 2nd biggest contract.....

if your whole argument is that a contract is validation of how good a guy is- then you are INSANE.

Nobody went there but you.
Whitesides contract is brand new, and was offered because of current production plus upside.

sounds like the start of an All-Star lineup...:thumb:

Damn right! I'm thinking Swappy P, Jammin' Jimmer, Danny Ferry, Chris Dudley & Greg Oden. Now tell me one team (other than the Globetrotters) that could beat that awesome collection of HOF caliber hoopsters. I beat ya can't!

thats your whole argument though- that and blocked shots that he goes after instead of playing sound defense, lol.

From the NY Times 11/21/15 Just one of MANY who prove you wrong.

"From Jan. 1 through the end of the season, Whiteside averaged 13.7 points, 11.5 rebounds and 2.9 blocks a game, much of that production coming after Chris Bosh was lost for the season because of blood clots in his lungs. Whiteside’s various peripheral skills helped him record a player efficiency rating of 26.2, which would have placed him between James Harden and Chris Paul had he played enough to qualify among the league leaders.

Now playing alongside Bosh, Whiteside has been even better, with averages of 15 points, 11.3 rebounds and 4.5 blocks a game heading into the weekend, while still playing just 28.8 minutes a game. By Basketball-Reference’s calculations, he allows the fewest points per 100 possessions of any player in the N.B.A. when he is on defense and blocks an N.B.A.-high 12.12 percent of his opponents’ shots, which would shatter the record of 10.81 percent, set by Manute Bol in 1988-89.

Whiteside’s P.E.R. is up to 27.74, which ties him with LeBron James for fifth in the N.B.A. He is also second in the N.B.A. in defensive win shares.

No longer a diamond in the rough, Whiteside has become a full diamond and is probably the biggest bargain in the N.B.A. Among the top 10 in the N.B.A. in P.E.R., the second-lowest salary is Stephen Curry’s $11,370,786, more than 11 times Whiteside’s $981,348. The average salary of the nine players in the top 10 other than Whiteside is $16.6 million.

When Riley and Spoelstra look to bring Whiteside back for next season, they are going to need quite a bit of money to make it happen. But if Whiteside’s first 59 games with the Heat are any indication, he will be well worth it."

Wade, who said he considers himself one of Whiteside’s toughest critics, felt the same way coach Erik Spoelstra did about Whiteside’s defensive performance this season.

Both said if judged solely by the second half of the season Whiteside might have had a stronger case for the award.

“It would’ve been interesting to see if the voting — if he would’ve been able to put together [what he did] post-All-Star for an entire season,” Spoelstra said. “But he’s made incremental improvements each month. It hasn’t been an ‘Aha! moment.’ It’s been two steps forward, one step back, one step forward. He keeps on working at it. He’s been dedicated to it. He’s understanding now that winning defensive plays don’t necessarily show up in a boxscore.

“And he’s making more of those, which is now allowing him to have more of an impact in the paint. And that might mean he has less blocked shots.”

Him going from a minimum to being offered 6 max contracts ends any SENSIBLE argument, but of course we have to consider its you.

As far as point 2, as already shown, Whiteside's total D got much better in the second half.

A better example of a player chasing stats by cheating on overall D would easily be Love going for rebounds.

Not a single team in this league would offer TT a max contract. Probably not even the cavs.

Last summer, not a single other outside team offered him ANYTHING.

Manute Bol, Sean Bradley, Yao Ming, Gheorghe Muresan, and Marc Eaton. Sure, they couldn't get down the floor, but try getting a shot off against their zone when the shortest guy is 7'4".

Well I sure hope Muggsy Bogues & Spud Webb are part of the coaching staff.
