Shaq had some high praise for Whiteside this morning on Mike & Mike. They were talking about how all the centers these days are shooters and Shaq brought up how much he likes Whiteside's game.

I don't think anyone has questioned Whiteside's game or talent. It's what's between his two ears that really bothers people. There have been countless players who had all the physical tools and just couldn't put it together. You can't be a great player without both the talent and basketball acumen.

So I read Miami's defensive numbers are basically even now with Whiteside on the court v. off the court. He must be killing it recently since there was a pretty significant difference earlier this season. He may have knucklehead tendencies, but it looks like his game is improving. Here's his ranking in several statistical categories.

RPG (4th)
FG% (2nd)
eFG% (3rd)
TS% (6th)
BPG (1st)
PER (9th)
Def Rtg (1st)
Def WS (5th)
Def Box +/- (2nd)

He is also setting much better screens for the guards now. As turnup and I said, the kid is learning daily. He's played barely over a season in this league.

Notice how Tom Haberstroh stopped talking about him as well. Typical shitty NBA analyst from espn

think of the headlines- which grabs your attention?

NBA Shot blocks leader actually drags his teams defense down?

or

Heat Defense slightly better when NBA blocks leader is on the Court?

and seriously OF COURSE Whiteside is going to be on his best behavior and give effort right after having another display of utter thuggishness that embarassed himself and the team. In the last calendar year- (i believe) he has been EJECTED 3 times for being a clown. I wonder how many times in this next calendar year? If it doesnt happen I will be the FIRST to give him credit- however....im not losing sleep over the possibility let me tell ya. PLEASE LET BOSH BE HEALTHY...I want a Cavs/Heat series SOOOOO BAD...a game 5 beat down where Tristan consistently out-mans Whiteside for offensive boards followed by him losing his mind.....ohh i just KNOW its coming.

Google Miami Heat Whiteside highlights from last night, then understand you're seeing things that Tristan could never, ever do.

This is the same idiotic bullshit you've already posted 100 times. Find a new theme.

Thankfully the Cavs have Tristan to carry LeBrons load.

NUMBERS DON'T

He's making his FTs
His outside shooting is vastly improved.
He's much improved in the screen setting, etc..
And, he's still learning.
On talent alone, he certainly can soon be the premier C in the league.

That mid range jumpshot is becoming a problem for opponents. I believe he was 4-4 last night and made quite a few vs the Warriors

He has a limited amount of post moves. But I've noticed his jump shot has improved as well. Given the trend in the NBA, I'm okay him working on his jump shot more, so long as he doesn't think he can be a 3-point shooter. But shots from the elbow are what he should be working on.

Yeah I was quite surprised at the number of mid-range shots he took and made during that game. If he's able to knock down a 10-12 footer with regularity, that becomes a huge problem for opponents. Having a center who can knock down a 15 footer with regularity is every bit as good as a 4 stretching out to the 3 point line.
