The only way this makes sense if we can get Stan Javier back too

Available OF's:

Worth
Melky
Jay
Guti
Gonzo

Of those, I'd say only Guti would remotely be ok with signing with the Mariners. I still don't see this as a bad thing. They need a guy to come in for maybe a month then DFA.

I still can't believe Gutierrez is still around. Hard to believe there was a time when his nickname was "Death to Flying Things"

I bet a hockey team to be named at a later date wins a (second) Stanley cup for Seattle before the Mariners even play in the world series. Void if either of us die before either happens.

Takers?

Let's not get a head of ourselves. That Stanley Cup doesn't count, pre legit NHL. But you Huskies tend to take credit for non legit titles.

Melky is better. Cargo if healthy is better. Jay for the role they want is better. Worth is better. There is no baseball reason for this signing and DFA'ing Ichiro after a month would be the biggest shit-show in Mariners history. All the little Ichironians would burn their bobble-heads in effigy and then go rob the state of all DIPoto's hair conditioner and leave him flat.

I would also bet a hockey team will win a Stanley Cup before the Seattle Mariners play in the World Series. No farm system to speak of and our best players are aging.

Ugh.

In his defense when he was healthy, at his peak he was arguably the best defensive centerfielder in baseball. Until injuries took their toll, the guy was absolutely incredible in a very spacious Safeco Field.

At least we can claim a title :dhd:

And we can claim we've won 8 of the last 9 games between UW and WSU.

Last three games:
2015: 45-10 UW
2016: 45-17 UW
2017: 41-14 UW

But we are here to bitch about the Mariners, not to bow down to Washington. :suds:

It would be odd to DFA him after a month but if you are giving him a MLB contract there's not much you can do. Unless he really wants to just play for a little bit in say good bye. However that would just feed into the notion even more that they don't care about winning as much as they should. The reality is we will have to platoon in LF(again) and 1B (again :L). Combine that with probably having to run an 8 man pen a lot due to the rotation issues, there is just not much roster flexibility at all.

Without question there is better options for the outfield, but I just don't think anyone of those guys would sign with Seattle. The OF is set, just hurt. When healthy, whether we like it or not, Gamel/Heredia, Gordon and Haniger are the starters. I just guess I don't see the big deal on a guy who isn't suppose to see the field by May.

Not arguing with that nickname at all. He was amazing. I'd say he was up there with Andruw Jones as one of the best defensive center fielders I've ever watched... at least during that 3-4 year run. Kiermaier's up there as well.

I can live with it if he's treated like a 44 year old part time player.

But knowing this franchise they will make it a big deal with bobble heads, hit meters, ichirolls and whatever else.

I actually thought when he homered here in his last AB here last year, it was a pretty cool moment.

It will just be interesting to see how the whole thing is handled

I can see why some people hate that kind of stuff, but when it comes to promotional nights involving players that's never bugged me. I'm sick of the 95 stuff but I more hate their promotional nights like knitting nights, bark in the park or any of those other stupid nights (way to expensive for the single ladies night) to bring non fans into the stadium.

Ya, no idea why it hasn't been confirmed, or at least last I checked. Every other organization confirms contract signings within minutes of it breaking, yet this news has been out for nearly two full days and nothing out the only crew worth a nickel in the organization (the PR crew)
