Meh. At the very worst he takes up a roster spot. 1 year isn’t that big of a deal but the last only thing that concerns me is even with new ownership, there’s still the same old mentality. Trying to stay relevant with the fans by being nostalgic. Many of us are still choking on ‘95!

At the very best, Ichiro will fill some seats and that’s all that matters for them. He’s not gonna help win games

We have been talking about this on the Spring Training thread.

And to answer the question 'Why not?', your quoted post answers that. It just proves to anyone watching including real players that they still don't care about winning just filling seats. See the late 70's and all 80's Mariners to see how that turned out.

Ill keep the rest of my Ichiro thoughts here because it will probably clog the other thread.

The fact that they dont have anyone else in the system to replace Gamel that's better then Ichiro is a huge indictment but also a different issue that we dont need to get into right now.

The truth is there more productive outfielders unsigned that I would have rather seen. Cargo or John Jay come to mind. If you take the name away from the player you will see how unproductive he has been lately. He's been below replacement level 2 of the past 3 years and hasnt had a WRC+ above 100 since 2011. The fact that he has been a pinch hitter or a platoon makes this even worse as he usually only hits in more favorable match ups. My point is they are signing the name. That's it.

The only thing worse then this team not spending money to get better is spending money to get worse. They got worse today. Seriously give Ian Miller or anyone else a shot over this.

I do see their thinking. I think it has been proven that the road to success starts with signing a player older than the franchise. :fuck2give:

This news rivals the impending announcement of the opening day starter. My money is on Randy Johnson.

This organization will jump on the chance of bringing back ARod if he wasn’t hated by so many.

They gonna put Ichiro on their shoulder and carry him off the field if they finish 1GB out of first place or WC?

So, at least they're are moving on from '95.....and up to 2001.

I really have no clue what they are gonna celebrate after they beat 2001 to death.

I bet a hockey team to be named at a later date wins a (second) Stanley cup for Seattle before the Mariners even play in the world series. Void if either of us die before either happens.

Takers?

I hear Olerud is coming back as insurance to Healy with his recent injury.

I don't know man, Olerud doesn't exactly fit the 1st Base profile of 6' 260 that they're apparently looking for......
