Pretty much...if he had those 2 less HRs be doubles (so he'd have 40 HR), and if he had 5 less runs scored but had 1 more RBI (so he'd have 100), would his season really be better?
Here's the list of players who have led the league in BA, drove in 100 runs, had 40 doubles, 200 hits, and 20+ steals:

1901 Nap Lajoie
1904 Nap Lajoie
1905 Cy Seymour
1911 Ty Cobb
1912 Heinie Zimmerman
1917 Ty Cobb
1920 George Sisler
1922 George Sisler

didnt win a batting title
didnt drive in 100
fanned 131 times (to 124 walks, yes)
didnt use his speed, only swiped 6 bags vs 21 the next year.
didnt come close to 200 hits

borderline great

lolz

Measured by OPS+, there've only been 62 better seasons in the history of the game, but it "borderline" great.

That's funny shit.

no, you left out the lack of base stealing, not coming close to 200 hits, having 130+ k's...and the .227 late and close BA didnt help either.

When you have an OBP of .460, do you care much about an arbitrary hits milestone? If his OBP were .360 but he got 200 hits, is that better than his .460 and 172?

Did Bonds ever get close to 200 hits a season?

And yet you said that Phil Nevin had 3-4 great years even though he never was in the top 10 in BA, hits, or doubles, had one season in the top 10 in HRs, one season in the top 10 in RBI.

When you have an OBP of .460, do you care much about an arbitrary hits milestone? If his OBP were .375 but he got 200 hits, is that better than his .460 and 172?

Did Bonds ever get close to 200 hits a season?
2003 Barry Bonds, borderline great season

Didn't drive in 100
Didn't lead the league in BA
Didn't use his speed (just 7 SB)
Didn't come close to 200 hits
Didn't come close to 40 doubles

I mean if OPS is the only number that now counts, in a HR riddled league, I guess you would be right

I think OPS and OPS+ are the best readily available offensive stats if you're going to pick just one.

And a number of those seasons ahead of him in OPS+ were at a time where 70 games was a full season.

Harper's had one of the greatest offensive seasons over the last few decades (if not one of the best ever) and an injury shortened MVP caliber season. His rookie year was also one of the greatest age 19 seasons ever. He's managed 26.1 WAR through age 25 and that's with him missing chunks of time. I'm a bit worried about how he'll hold up, but I think he's on a HOF trajectory.

yup, he's being kept, should have mentioned it a keeper league

4 keepers - Mine are beniditi, Seager, Pham and Bergman (Schoop in the mix still)

The dude that got the #2 pick, who will be Trout - Kept Judge/Stanton and JD Martinez....LOL

Why the fuck was Trout not kept?

we get lost in over analysation and deep metrics.

yes, OPS and OPS+are valuable, but so are standard baseball metrics like hits, RBI, etc

he hit .226 "late and close" in 2015.

.256 with 2 outs and RISP

.256 AVG with 2 outs and RISP....with a .515 OBP

He also hit .336 with men on base and over .300 with RISP, but those don't help your argument to bring them up...
