They probably won't even come close to doing it but it's scary that teams like the Wings, Blues and Preds can add more than $20M in annual salaries at the deadline.

I can see the Blues & Preds having the cap space, but the Wings is what bothers me. I hope in the next CBA teams aren't allowed to sign guys to BS contracts in which the final years of the deal they make pennies compared to early on.

I've heard Giguere might be available. At least he's won a cup.

the flyers should just abandon hope w/ the goalies.. go back to paying them 1-2 mil and just building a flawless team around them.. outscore teams like 8-5

trade bryz and 3 1sts to cbj for nash and just light people up on the scoreboard for the next 5 years

Actually Holmgren should give the Oilers a call. Khabibulin has 1 year left on his deal after next year. Give the Oilers a 2nd round pick & Bryzgalov. Their front office might just be stupid enough to accept the offer.

At least Bryz's beautiful girlfriend husky would be well equipped for edmontons climate.

Also I approve of trying this

Sorry JA, but that's a terrible, terrible deal...and idea. The Pens don't need Nash. What this team needs is to get rid of Paul Martin in any way possible and gain a shutdown defenseman. And Sid to be healthy. Also, Sid's never going to be traded. Sorry. Even with the question marks, any deal wouldn't be enough.

oh never say never.

oh TK has to go to.. for cap reasons (and other Gm moves)... for my whole little deal to work. that line up above has no increase in cap (well very manageable increase)

it easier to become a shut down dman in the playoffs (a lot more goes uncalled) than it is to add goals. Imo.

6 ft 4 220 lbs 35-40 goal scoring wingers dont come around very often. IF all 3 centers were healthy I would offer Staal... I would still see what they would want now anyways...

Not sure I understand what you're saying but the the front loaded deals don't alter the salary cap once the player's paid salary is reduced.

The cap hit is always the average salary for the term of the contract.

no kidding.. i'd do jvr for schneider in a heartbeat

even though that'd mark the end of schneider's promising future.. it'd take about 2 months for him to become complete garbage

I'll use Frans Nielsen as an example.

Year One 2M
Year Twp 2.5M
Year Three 3M
Year Four 3.5M

The cap hit for the contract is 2.75M

This needs to stop. Charles Wang is signing players to these backloaded deals & circumventing the cap. The Islanders are above the cap floor, but in actual dollars spent they are well below it. This is why I hope in the next CBA contracts become dollar for dollar with the cap. I know it won't happen, but it would sure change how teams operate.

In years one and two he can be used for cap circumvention but he's doing the opposite in the other two years.

If they are using this to get around the cap then they are forced to trade players as soon as their salary overtakes their cap hit.

You know more about how the Isles are doing this than I do but that seems like a recipe for disaster and therefore unlikely to be a premeditated strategy for dodging the cap floor.

My point is every team does this. The actual pay the player receives is different than his cap hit. Look at Luongo. He's taking home something like 10 million yet his cap hit is like 5 or 5.5M. It's ridiculous.

The Islanders are using Nino Niederreiter's bonuses that he will never receive to help them reach the cap floor.

after this year he'll have 10 years and something like 48 mill remaining on the contract

perfect for a suck franchise that needs to make the cap floor but is too cheap to pay to the cap ... actual dollars out will be less than cap hit

The final 3 years of the contract are what I'm talking about. These deals need to stop. I know they probably won't, but until they do teams will continue to make a mockery of the salary cap.

not really making a mockery out of it when its allowed. they are using it. thats all. they will change it most likely next CBA but if its allowed how is it mocking?
