Assuming Lombardi doesn't plant C4 in Brown's car the next time he parks it at the airport like Dash says, it makes way more sense for a team in the Kings' position to buy him out than it does to keep him on as he loses what little remains of his professional hockey pedigree. As per GF:

There are a couple of rough years where his cap hit will outweigh the buyout savings but overall the impact pales in comparison to the impact carrying his full hit until 2022 will do when he's being outscored by David Clarkson. LA needs to rid themselves of this contract to have any chance of competing for the Cup again.
I think they'd probably be better off - if they feel they can manage it in the short term - to give it two more years to get the high salary years out of the way and substantially reduce the buyout hit.

Or they could trade him to Arizona while he awaits his trial.

Couldn't you just keep Brown for one more year and then let the Vegas team select him in the expansion draft?

Vegas knows not to throw good money after bad, esls.

Aren't they trying to get the Raiders to move there at the moment? That would suggest otherwise...

I don't know, aren't the Raiders on the upswing these days and the NFL is just a license to print money, isn't it?

Well, if they give money to build a stadium for that demon spawn of Al Davis, then the city (house) loses instantly by the metrics of the "giving money to billionaires for sports stadiums is the dumbest thing a government can ever do" law.

Is it really dumber than building a full-size pyramid, a half-sized Eiffel Tower, or an 8 acre fountain in the middle of a desert?

Did the city/county/state give those companies money for that?

/How dare you forget Lady Liberty!
I don't know that there are direct payouts, but there's certainly construction/improvement, tourism, etc. tax incentives in place to help spur the development of the mega-casinos and hotels.

I'm as opposed to this type of thing as anyone but government can do much dumber things than this. Hell, government is basically a game of "can you top this?" of stupid endeavours.

But there is most certainly a difference between "giving" and "not taking".
