Jordan Staal rumors surfaced around game 3 when he was the only Penguin visible on the ice...and now they seem to be picking up steam. All I know is, I HOPE he's this over-valued.

Should the Edmonton Oilers trade their top pick for Jordan Staal? | Edmonton Journal

*Jaw hangs* Do it.

I mean, who needs some crazy good Russian winger, ammiright?

Now, I can actually see this being a good trade for both teams, because the Oilers need something more than scoring up front, and Staal offers a different aspect up front. BUT, he'd have to sign long term there first. So, this probably won't happen.

Don't like it. Jordan is good, but is he number 1 overall pick good? He'd have a lot more pressure on him than he did in Pitt in terms of leadership and being the top line center (I believe he could succeed at both), I just feel Edmonton could get more for that pick.

i could see the pens moving staal, and since the oilers are the oilers, i could see them being a partner..

but the oilers need a freakin d-man or 6, not more offense.. what are they thinking up there?

you think he'd be the top line center out there? you dont think RNH would be that guy?

(he's a center too right?)

I actually think Staal is exactly what the Oilers need. He's the perfectly complementary guy. He's a good 1B or 2 C. Responsible, kills penalties, has a scoring touch, big body. I'm pretty convinced he's moving. My thought was this: if that's the avenue possible it could be Staal and Pens #1 for Oilers #1 and *throw in*

I wouldn't be surprised if all three Staal brothers eventually want to play on same team. Eric, BTW, has four more years on his CAR deal.

Staal is not worth the top pick. Sorry.

I'm reading the comments on this article, and half a dozen people saying he's injury prone...okay, he's had some crappy luck the past 12 months, but the guy was a horse the first 5 years of his career.

If the Pens paired him with a decent D prospect, maybe. That'd still be really dumb on Edmonton's part.

How about if they paired him with Paul Martin or Brooks Orpik?

Hahhahahaha, yessssss. HERE HAVE MARTIN! Seriously though we have some D depth we could move too. They're sort of good trade partners. Oiler fans saying they'd do it if we took Horcoff.

Edmonton should trade that pick for Mediocre Staal and the Pens 1st. Then flip the Pens first in a deal for Luongo. Then they severely overpay in order to lure Suter up north. Boom, instant playoff contender. Literally none of those things will happen.

From the conclusion section of the blog in pix's original post:

He is exactly the kind of player the Oilers need at centre, giving the team an excellent one-two punch with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. While the Oilers have been a weak team, the thought of playing with wingers like Jordan Eberle, Taylor Hall and Ales Hemsky might be enticing for Staal. He’d certainly have a bigger role here.

Why is Hemsky still considered an enticing guy to play alongside? The guy is out of the lineup more often than not. The biggest thing he provides the Oilers these days is cap room via LTIR.

Hemsky gets overhyped because somebody is always trying to move him every deadline.

Don't like it. Jordan is good, but is he number 1 overall pick good?

I think so. It wasn't that long ago he was drafted with the #2 pick, and he has already developed into one of the best two-way players in the league.

People overvalue #1 picks. Only three of them have won the Calder since Mario Lemieux, and most of them develop into Erik Johnson. Does Edmonton want to rebuild forever?
