I think he's had 32 picks....in my opinion I'd call like 11 of them hits right now with last years draft having a chance to add a couple more to that total.

I don't know how that stacks up to other GMs but it definitely doesn't scream awful.

The first round misses prevents us from being able to praise him. However, his upside is that he has hit on a guy in every draft later on that wound up being a first round caliber player. AT LEAST one in each draft.

And draft pick success is relative. When you're drafting with those 5th, 6th and 7th round picks. Just finding good depth/role guys is what I think you would call a hit. He's done more than that with those picks.

What about Nate Sudfeld?

He was a FA, you could have had him!

I remember Week 17 right before the double-doink game in 2018.

Wentz was already done and then Foles went down in Washington. Sudfeld finished the game and I thought for a good 24 hours that we were going to be able to play against your guys 3rd string QB who had zero experience.

That was a fun 24 hours. A lot better than the 24 hours following the double-doink itself. When I thought I might quit my life and take up drinking full-time.

Did he? Pace said as recently as a week ago that they had full confidence in Mitch, and they've given him nothing but every opportunity to be the Bears' QB. It's possible that Pace just wants a good fallback option and/or something to get people off his back about not addressing the backup spot well enough.

All i'm saying is that we shouldn't just expect Foles to take over and Mitch get pushed to the side. If it happens then fine, but i'm still not completely writing Mitch off yet. If anything is going to make him open his eyes, this will. If he turns a corner and starts to look like a 2nd overall pick then it'd be stupid to sit him on the bench because it took him a while to figure things out.
I'm guessing that's what a camp competition is all about. It is Mitch's job to lose and Foles could be the one who can take it away from Mitch.

Is Foles better than Mitch? My belief is, yes. Is that saying much? No, until proven otherwise. This could be, with a few fixes left to the O line a great opportunity for Foles. Time will tell.

If we don't fix the Oline, run game, play calling, TE it won't matter who the QB is.

lol. Trubisky is the only QB in the league where he needs to be surrounded by all pro players at every offensive position just to perform at an average NFL QB level.

All pro's at every position huh. Why make stupid shit up? A average Oline and run game and we make the playoffs easy. But sure all pro's at every position is needed.

Don't forget "playcalling and TE".

Offensive line wasn't great but Trubisky didn't help. Trubisky behind an "average" offensive line and an "average" rb and he would still suck.

Average QB play and they make the playoffs easy last year. A lot of really good QB's have lines or run games that struggle. Truly good QB's succeed in spite of that. Russell Wilson hasn't had a run game, O-line or defense for a handful of years now.

You have to be really, really good in those areas to hide Trubisky.

Last year, they weren't and they needed their QB to play at a serviceable level. He couldn't.

I hope to find that out this year. Hope we fix enough of the offense to know what we got in Trubs. Wilson would have sucked here last year. There is not a QB in nfl history that would have been good here last year. I give Trubs and monty a incomplete for last year.

Oh give me a break. Russel Wilson wouldn't have been good on this offense? He would have been MILES better than Trubisky.

What is up with you and Trubisky? The writing is already on the wall and you can't read. Someone literally has to hit you over the head before you figure it out. I swear you're the last moron to always understand what to everyone else is common sense.

For all intents and purposes - Russell Wilson has been a one man show in Seattle. That team is dog shit practically EVERYWHERE around him and on both sides of the ball. Including coaching... Carroll has devolved into a brutal HC as the game passes him by.

Bears Q&A: Is Nick Foles the Day 1 starter? Why did they rush to give Jimmy Graham all that money? Why keep Danny Trevathan over Nick Kwiatkoski?

Was the Nick Foles trade a way for Ryan Pace to add a veteran quarterback without admitting Mitch Trubisky is not the guy? — @jhartzmark

No. How is it not apparent that swapping a fourth-round pick and guaranteeing Foles a little more than $20 million isn’t a complete admission that Trubisky is not the guy? If Trubisky were the guy, the Bears would have kept the draft pick and earmarked that money for other needs. This isn’t the kind of investment a team makes for a QB2. It’s far and away more than they provided for Chase Daniel to be the clipboard holder the last two seasons. The addition of Foles signals a restructuring of the depth chart at the position that will happen soon. I don’t believe the Bears added Foles to motivate or push Trubisky and I don’t believe he was brought in to be a fallback plan in the event Trubisky is inconsistent at the start of the season. Follow the money and put the pieces together. This move was made to get a starting quarterback for the start of the 2020 season. That’s my takeaway.

Not sure if I want to be on the same train with Brad Biggs...but I am.

Because the Bears clearly are moving on to Nick Foles, at least in my mind, would they try to recoup something for Mitch Trubisky by trading him? — Harold L., Seattle

From the Bears’ perspective, that’s a good idea: get something in return for a player who hasn’t worked out, especially after they’ve brought in the replacement. Flip it around, though: Can you envision another team would want to fork over a draft pick for Trubisky, who essentially is on a one-year deal considering no one is going to pay him the fifth-year option in his contract? The Bears were near the bottom of the league in nearly all key passing statistics. The offseason program looks like it very well could be wiped out, and if that happens, who knows when teams will be able to report to training camp. So when is Trubisky going to learn the offense for a team that trades for him? None of that adds up. Most teams have their QB2 in place already too.

No one I've heard/read has said that Foles was brought in to be the QB2. No one I've heard/read has said "Trubisky is still THE guy".

Simply that Foles isn't guaranteed anything. Just like Bridgewater wasn't for an even bigger offer.

And per the 2nd post - the issue is that trading Trubisky would cost 5 mil in dead cap. We have next to no cap room at 1.6 mil. I don't know if there's even a way around that problem.

We just opened up about 4 million restructuring Whitehair I think. Read that somewhere...Not sure if that's in your figure or not.

We all (except noon) know where this is going. Nagy/Pace aren't going to verbally throw Mitch under the bus...but he's done. No guarantee needs to be made. Yes, there is a minor chance of something happening to prevent Foles from playing week 1. But that would require either injury to Foles or a significant spread of play leading up to week 1 where Mitch just destroys Foles. Mitch is NOT going to destroy Foles. Mitch has had 3 seasons to destroy Foles or whoever the f*ck else at QB with Chase Daniel being his only "competition."

Foles week 1 and most likely for the season.

Yes, that gave us over 9 million like a week ago. We have made a barrage of signings and re-signings since that time. We have 1.6 million now. You may follow along on this link.

NFL 2020 Salary Cap Tracker

Foles will start week 1 if he wins the job in camp. He may be the frontrunner - but he still has to outperform Mitch during that time. With this team. It's very hard to envision Foles being named Week 1 starter by July. Clearly, if what the Bears told Bridgewater made him hesitate. There's nothing currently guaranteed to Foles.

I don't see why anyone is worried. If Nick Foles is the better QB, he'll prove it and earn the position. Simple as that. Spending a 4th round pick (in a draft where we're low on capital) and $20 mil guaranteed on the guy doesn't signal that he's here to just ride the bench.

That said, if Trubisky comes back and lights the world on fire outperforming Foles in the process, why would you want to sit him down. Unlikely scenario but the open competition is a must. Whoever the better QB is wins and we're presumably a better football team because of it.

Let's hope Pace secures some quality protection for Foles/Trubisky in the draft now. The O line needs shoring up.

No it isn't. He's the starter. It's in the bag outside of pure formality.

Look, other than noon, who is a meme at this point...

...nobody is fooled by Biscuit.

Look, I'll be the first to say, and said it before, ol' Mitch all of a sudden becoming the guy would be the absolute BEST thing that could happen, even after this Foles signing. But it ain't happening.

This "competition" talk is bullsh*t.

Mitchell Trubisky's career defining moment to this point is getting a hug on national television like a 7 year old who just scraped his knee because why?

Because he sucks horribly. Literally the only reason this man continued playing last season was because his backup sucked more. If anyone anywhere near Foles' capability was on the roster last year, Mitch would have been benched minimum 8 games ago and we wouldn't even be having this discussion right now.

Nick Foles threw for more yards in the Super Bowl than Mitch has thrown in any game in his entire career...which includes quite a few against the Lions. THAT is an actual defining player moment.

It isn't even close between the two and add in that Foles and the coaching staff have history for seamless integration? Yeah...The answer is right in your face.

Fellas, the NFL is not just sports...The NFL is sports ENTERTAINMENT. You can make every stats-driven logically sound pile of whatever argument you want. Nobody, particularly casual fans (the largest group of fans), wants to watch this kid under center anymore. The majority of the fans get it...The coaches get it...The players get it. They latter two won't say so because "we don't have any turds on this team" and I do commend them for that, but the writing is on the wall.

Last year was terrible. We were dead men walking from week 1 and although there was a lot of valid argument about how much emphasis to place on one game...it was obvious that we were going nowhere from the first game. Why? Because of the QB position by far and large. By the end of the season? Nobody cared. LOL I get a chuckle looking at the Vikes game thread...It's like 4 posts by richi about how bad Biscuit sucks, one other Bear fan (I forget) agreeing in a one liner and few Vikings fans chiming in this or that. Like, how f*cking sad is that for this team? The team is not that bad to deserve such treatment. Mitch and Chase are.

Nobody wants to run 2019 back. If those of us who bleed blue and orange were fed up with the Bears by the end of 2019, what do you think a casual fan did? Do you think they even turned on the TV? Yeah...No.

BDN. Buy your t-shirts and pray he has some of whatever that magic stuff is they claim he has in Philly. We'll need some of it to jump back into the upper tier of NFL teams.
