Staal needs to get his big frame in front of the net. He could be so effective as a screen if he were more willing to do it.

That's something I've questioned even when we had our full, healthy roster. He's NEVER in front, which makes no sense, because most of the goals in his career come from there.

I also say that if Martin doesn't shoot the puck, he gets pulled off the powerplay altogether. Put Lovejoy out there, he hits the net all the time, or Michalek, whose shot is heavy and who's willing to use it. Martin's nifty along the blue line, but if no one has to come out and defend his shot, the passing lanes will continue to disappear.

I'm definitely looking for the team to back up their words with a strong start, build up a lead and then lock it down. Strong pressure and discipline to limit the PP opportunities for FLA. If they can do that, they'll get their share of PP time to work on it... but I'd rather see them scoring at even strength and getting more consistent work throughout the entire game.

I kind of disagree. This is one of those teams which, if they come out with energy, they should easily win. I want them to draw as many PPs as they can, because the powerplay is far too instrumental to postseason success to be this horrible. I was watching clips of teams from the postseasons of 08-09 and 09-10, and I know the people out there made a huge difference, but it was more of the fact that they had a PLAN when they got the puck heading up ice. They were confident in what they were supposed to do, and they did it. This team just has no clue what they're doing with a man advantage.

Since all rumour points at the fact that they don't have a plan that works, I don't see why they couldn't try the same stuff they do at even strength that generates the chances. Dump the puck in with multiple forwards pressuring the D and retrieve the puck. Normally they cycle until they get an opening to generate a chance. With an extra skater, they should have an easier time finding that open man for the scoring chance.

Right now it just seems (as most have said) they don't have much of a scheme that works. If I had to guess, they're implementing a PP that would normally rely upon the playmaking skills of Crosby and Malkin to make things happen. Yet when you substitute guys like Kovy, while skilled in their own way, they just aren't making the plays. They don't rely upon those guys to play like Sid and Geno at even strength, why do it on the PP?

I'm not saying they shouldn't get on the PP and all. I'm just thinking that if I could have one thing right now, I'd have their even strength game going strong which would limit the other team's PP chances because they would be spending most of the time in their own end.

TK's got a good shot. If he ever gets a hockey IQ he'll be a 30 goal scorer. I mean, he scored 20 this year being as dumb as a brick.

Penguins look good so far. A couple questionable decisions in the offensive end that might have stolen some chances from themselves, but they're possessing the puck well and keeping Florida from getting anything going.

A few rushes should've been goals. A 3 on 1 and a 2 on 1.

That was a good 2-on-1. Conner got a good shot off there from a good location. Good read of the defense falling back on the pass. No goal, but that's how your odd-man rushes should look.

Whatever scheme the Panthers are running in the neutral zone seems to be either brilliantly effective or miserably defective every time.

And Skillie gets the goal. He looks good tonight. That was a pretty goal on his part.
