TL;DR: why does Omaha fucking suck?

i gotta say, I've never had a pleasant time in this fuckin city. I've grown to hate it. So as to not insult you my question is, what gives?

First time I spent more than a few hours here I went to the zoo. Half of it was closed down to renovations (not really the zoo's fault at all, more just bad timing on my part) but it lead to a less than impressive zoo visit when all I'd ever heard was how great Henry dorely was

Second time, was summer of 2014, I went to the CWS. I wasn't wearing no faggie or horns gear, I was wearing my skers attire. The people in and around the field I found nothing but extremely unpleasant. Not as much the fans, but the people actually working at TD. It kinda amazed me

Now to my most recent encounter. Seeing as you guys can see that in writing this post at 3AM it'll help you guys understand my situation a bit. My fraternity had a formal in Omaha tonight (sat night) and we decided that unlike usual we would all find our own hotels and such (we've had problems with noise complaints in the past when we get a block of rooms...fully understandable) I was staying at the homewood suites DT, right near TD. We were in the hotel room drinking before we went on a party boat. At around 5:30 we got a call from the front desk saying we had a noise complaint and our music was too loud. Not wanting to get kicked out I gladly told the front desk that we would turn the music off and be going to our event within the next 10-15 minutes. We got back at around 11:30 and went straight to sleep.

Anyways I wake up to a knock on my door at about 1:45 in the morning to the hotel security telling me I have 15 minutes to vacate the premises. Afterwards anything in the room is considered hotel property and if we are not off the premises the cops would be called...me and the 3 other people in The room were physically asleep...(to give you some better understanding, I stayed sober for the night simply to keep us from getting too noisy and being kicked out)

I tried asking about why we got a noise complaint since we were asleep. Again her whole thing about the cops was repeated to me verbatim

So my question is....what gives? Ive never run in to rude people in any part of Nebraska except Omaha, and they haven't been just rude they've been flat out assholes

Holy Moly. No wonder you hate the city.

I moved away from Omaha in 1975.

I have always hated big cities. I hate Chicago, I hate San Francisco, I hate Los Angeles. I hate the traffic in Denver, but I don't stay in Denver, I stay on the outskirts. I don't hate Denver, but I do not want to move back. I hate Charlotte, NC. I hate Atlanta.

I agree with you on your assessment.

My advice, stay at one of the casino hotels over in Council Bluffs.

IDK what the fuck hotel you stayed at but WOW. That's crazy. Never heard of anything like that.

No offense but I don't think you're giving us the full story. Who the hell hasn't pulled some bullshit dumbass stuff at a hotel, but I think you just ran into the wrong staff or something because that is crazy.

Y'all must have done SOMETHING.

EDIT: I dislike Omaha as well. Not defending the city at all. Honestly that place can go fuck itself. Their attitude about Lincoln and their whole demeanor in general sucks. I would never under any circumstances want to live there.

There is obviously more to this story than meets the eye. Hotels just don't kick people out for being quiet little peeps in their rooms.

For starters you are obviously minors drinking alcohol and they likely knew that. They could likely see the immaturity in you. The last thing you wanted was cops showing up.

I'd have more sympathy for you if you were underage military guys drinking and being disturbing. IMO if you're old enough to risk your life serving the country (18), you should be able to partake. Even then there is a limit to what private business and the general public should have to put up with. Two warnings and then the 3rd time you're out.

However, you are not serving your country. You're just a bunch of spoiled frat punks who think they can do whatever they want whenever they want, and let other (typically less fortunate) kids defend your borders.

Why did you sleep in your car? Why not just drive back to Lincoln?

He says Homewood Suites. It's a nice place. Never stayed at the one downtown, but I've stayed at the one north of KC.

Any hotel downtown by the Century Link and TD Ameritrade are quite used to party goers and generally tolerant of it TO A LIMIT.

If you're an underage entitled punk getting snotty with them, you're likely to end up out on your ear.

Sorry, I'd have to agree there is more to this story and employees at TD gave you shit for wearing husker gear?

Can't understand why that would be an issue. That would be half the people there.

As for the zoo went there this summer too. Yeah it's in bad shape I'll give you that. Didn't hate on them though, just realized we should of skipped that part of our trip home this year.

I agree with R_A, there has to be more to this story. Was it bring your own lamp?

pondering it and discussing it with our social chair this morning, we came to the conclusion that they simply messed up which room they were supposed to removed. Im sure ye all think there is more to the story but i can't come up with any more details....think they simply removed the wrong room, there were 4 or 5 other rooms that we had guys in

as for why i didn't drive home, had 2 beers while i was on the party boat and being underaged....i wasn't going to drive home until i was sure it was out of my system (gasp! so he WAS drinking! that frat boy is a bastard after all!!)....were not a bunch of spoiled brats RA....you clearly have a bad view of greeks and i doubt i can change your opinion on this one, but lets not take any chance to insult me for no reason huh?

RA, i think you're misunderstanding both who i am and what happened....after i asked the lady how we could've had a noise complaint and she repeated her thing, i very respectfully said i understood and we would gather our things, and we were out in 9 minutes of our 15 minute time.

RA i know you and i have had issues in the past, but really you're going to just hijack my thread as an opportunity to hate on me cause I'm in a fraternity? cmon dude

As someone who's had Omaha formals before, ya gotta go to the right hotel. We went to the same hotel every year, and typically rented out a whole floor (albeit not as nice of a hotel). No trouble with noise complaints, and we'd usually get a bill for a 1-2 thousand dollars afterwards for various issues caused that was well in excess of what actually was wrong with the place, but the letter always ended "Hope you choose us again next year!" Chalk it up to the cost of doing business and being able to do what we wanted.

And as far as Omaha in general goes, it's not a college town, so that's probably why you aren't having a great time. As far as places to live after college, I love it. Lots to do as long as item number one on the list isn't the party/bar scene. I've mellowed out quite a bit so I like that. I've really enjoyed being back here since I graduated.

As I pointed out, I have no problem with 18 year old's drinking. If you're old enough to die for your country, you should be old enough to partake. You can't apply law to just one sector of an age group, so it should be legal for everyone 18 and over.

Someone in an adjacent room had to have complained. In a situation like that the hotel manager generally goes and stands outside the room for a few minutes and listens to see if the complaint is justified.

If I were being quiet (sleeping from 11:30 to 1:45am as you stated), I would have said "call the cops then". Unfortunately for you, you were not in a position to do that as you'd been breaking the law as minors in possession.

The fact is nobody has to tolerate you underage entitled punk frat boys beyond reason.

I'm speaking from experience. I've done my share of disturbing others when I was an immature punk who thought I knew everything.

You'll understand what I'm saying when you're older and have a family of your own, or are just trying to get a good nights sleep because you are traveling on business.

Right now you're just a selfish punk with mommy and daddy using their retirement to pay your way through college. You contribute very little (if anything) to society.

dude is this necessary? like really? If you don't believe what i said fine...but seriously why do you keep feeling the need to insult me?

Im on an academic scholarship, and my college fund ran out last semester and was made up 50-50 of my money, and i will also be leaving college with some debt because no RA, i don't have mommy and daddy paying my way through with their retirement

so seriously dude, you wanna sit here and call me a punk fine, quit labelling because you don't like the fact that I'm in a fraternity

last year, my fraternity and its members participated in over 1500 hours of volunteer community service hours

-we raised over $3,000 for the USO and the American Cancer Society

-2 weeks ago we raised over $2,000 for the USO again

-78 of our 107 members are on some type of academic scholarship

-1 of our members who graduated this past spring worked his entire way through college being a hasher in various other houses on campus...the dude is the definition of poor....mommy and daddy didnt pay for his shit cause mommy and daddy couldn't pay for their own shit

-15 of our members are going through school in a work study program

-2 of our members are currently doing missionary work in Peru

- well over 50% (closer to 90% if looking at just the juniors and seniors) currently have paying jobs

quit acting like me, a "know it all"...and think before you're so quick to assume

i agree

so i peacefully left the hotel and bitched about it on the internet instead of disturbing others by causing a scene in the hotel

i think I'm good RA, no one owes me anything indeed, and you certainly don't owe me your "lessons", so please refrain from giving them to me from here on out :thumb:

BTW. You can get a DUI for sleeping in your car if the keys are accessible.

Dumb ass law IMO, but it is what it is.
