Yep, saw that. He definitely has a 95 MPH fastball to the ribs owed to him. Put Scheppers in to face him on Sunday when it's the 9th inning and the Astros can't retaliate.

Worst case scenario is Scheppers gets ejected and suspended. Oh well.

How was he so average in Miami? Props to the Texas scouts for picking up on this guy.

He went to like 77% sinkers in Texas vs like 22% in Florida I read. Now, the pcts might be different, but that's the best I cant remember from what I read. Clearly our scouting department and Maddux saw something in that sinker.

Man, Venable looks awful at the plate. He is a better hitter than he's been showing lately.

You know what I've noticed? Probably 7 times out of 10, when a hitter argues with an umpire about the call the hitter is right. Seems the hitters have a better feel for the strike zone than the umpire who's supposed to be calling it.

He's not been getting at bats consistently lately. He's used to being an every day player. He is filling his role well though.

We don't need him for his offense though. Anything he does offensively is gravy. I like his defense.

Oh, no complaints here regarding his role. He's there to solidify the OF defense and get the odd hit.

I just know from his days in SD that he's capable of more at the plate.
