i think for the most part it has been a good off season . i think we attempted to address some issue in run defense with better tackers in the secondary and some run stoppers on the o/line .

i dont think we got younger or faster but we did gain experience which helps

if we stay healthy we can go places

So are we better? Probably but is it short-sighted.

On offense, we made two big trades. The first I love and I am not a Deebo fan. We traded him for a fifth and he is essentially a one year deal for 5 mil. I don’t mind giving up a fifth for an obvious upgrade. After TM, we have nothing at WR. Deebo, when used properly, can be a very good player, OF properly motivated. On a one year deal, this is a great move that can yield a compensatory pick at the end.

Laremy Tunsil is the second big trade. We got Tunsil and a 2025 fourth in exchange for a 2025 third and seventh, and a 2026 second and fourth. This trade could go either way. While on the surface, we are getting a legitimate pro bowl LT for a second, third, and seventh. What I don’t like about this trade is Tunsil’s age and the thought that Houston just gave away their only good offensive lineman like he was nothing. There are rumors that Tunsil is soft and nobody seems to upset that he is gone in Houston. He also got destroyed by Hendrickson and everybody on the KC Chiefs. Tunsil also had 19 penalties in 2025, the highest mark I have ever seen. This is particularly troublesome for me because our offense is based on efficiency and not taking negative plays.

QBs remain the same. Not a huge fan of spending 8 mil on a backup QB that old but I get it. People are scared to not have good backups. For me, if your starter goes down, you are screwed anyways.

RBs remain the same…except a year older. This makes this group worse.

TEs remain the same. Hopefully Sinnot improves, and while I am not big on a 35 year old TE, I am glad on resigning Ertz.

WRs are automatically improved. I really like the Deebo trade. Other than that, our WR group is the same.

OL will be improved with the addition of Tunsil. I like Coleman’s strength and athleticism but his lack of experience and technique made him a liability at LT. Coleman should be better at either LG/RG (until Cosmi returns or RT than what we had last season. I would like to see Coleman at RT to limit his movement and allow growth this season because when Cosmi returns, he is our RG. My question on Tunsil will reside in the next two drafts. We need to get bigger, stronger, faster, and younger. Tunsil is none of that but he is currently better, at least for the upcoming season.

I would have gone Moore and keep my draft picks over Tunsil. It would have saved us 6 million each season and we would have kept our picks.

So yes we are improved on offense, but how much better can we be?

On defense, I really wonder if we got any better.

Javon Kinlaw or Jon Allen. Allen is clearly a better player but he is older.

Jeremy Chinn or Will Harris. I think Chinn is clearly better than Harris, and younger. I would have paid the 5 mil difference for Chinn over signing Harris.

Fowler at 8 mil for 10 sacks would have been a deal. As it turns out, we signed no comparable player. I guess the expectation is Armstrong will play a larger role this season and we are likely to draft DE in round one.

Jonathan Jones at 5 mil or BSJ at 2 mil. I think we will actually regret this one. I understand moving on from BSJ but I think he will be better this year and Jones is OLD. Expect a corner in the round one or two.

I think we got worse on defense but if Magee and Owen’s step up, this defense can improve. Best resigning on defense was Iggy…really happy about that.

Very solid assessment and I am in agreement.

To start, I trust Adam Peters. 2024 showed us that he knows what he is doing and is an excellent draft evaluator.

That being said, I am confused at his approach this free agency period.

I am guessing that he had to pivot a few times due to being outbid or with someone free signing. R. Stanley comes to mind. After missing on Stanley and Jaylon Moore, I am sure that AP had to pivot quickly as Tackles were flying off the board. While I don't think AP panicked, I think he had to do something quickly and knew LT was available. While I like LT, it was a steep price to pay.

The Kinlaw signing is interesting because he appears to be an average player. Yes, there is familiarity with AP from his 49er days, but I didn't have Kinlaw being our free agent prize by a long shot. I think he will do fine, but Allen is better.

To me, it seems like after Day 1 (LT and Kinlaw), AP shifted to depth signings or bargin priced players. I think that was a mistake as we needed starters still. Chinn is a better player than Harris, but AP must have not met the asking price for Chinn. With the cap space we had, this situation is confusing to me.

Day 3 through the rest of the week seemed like bargin shopping only with an emphasis on retaining what we had (mostly) and filling up on DL at 1 year 3 million dollar deals. I know we need to stop the run, but it seems like AP went with quantity over quality. With the 3rd most cap in the league, I would have thought smaller resignings and 3 or 4 free agent starters brought in to be difference makers. I was wrong.

I don't see the strategy and plan, and am confused at this point. We have about 25 million in cap, but still have several holes to fill. Realistically, only the 1st and 2nd rounder should be counted on to contribute from the get go. 4th rounders and up are generally projected as depth and projects. Hopefully we get lucky and all of our picks are hits and they contribute from the get go.

Again, I guessed AP would have targeted upgrades on offense for JD and then address the poor secondary and pass rush. With trading so many picks for Latimore and LT, I would have figured our cap would have been used more wisely.

I believe AP has a plan and hopefully he hits on the draft picks and we bring in another player or 2 who can help close the gap with Philly.

Yes, I wanted Moore badly and was frustrated when he signed with KC. You have to build through the draft and the next 2 years will be more difficult simply due to the lack of picks.

Moore would have allowed more cap space than LT and we would have retained those picks.

I would have thought the priorities would have been last week (in no order):

Edge
#2 CB
Safety
#3 WR
RT
LG

I am guessing if we stay at 29, it will be BPA, but we have no real pass rush currently, and the questionable 2024 secondary isn't really that much better at all.

What is strange to me is that AP is a wizard in the draft room and you would figure he would have leaned on that strength instead of trading away so many picks. The Latimore trade is a bust thus far. I trust AP more in the draft room at this point more than pulling off trades. I was hoping we would have secured 4 starters in FA used the draft like we did last year.

Time will tell.

I am not sure about his talent evaluation to this point. The success of the team last year falls on Jayden Daniels, Dan Quinn, Kliff Kingsbury, and Joe Whitt (in that order). I would say Peters’ talent evaluation has been suspect to this point…see Ben Sinnott.

I agree Stanley made him pivot if the report of Stanley taking 4 mil less per year is true. I never heard Peters’ interest in Moore, who signed a 15 mil contract. I like to think we could have persuad3d Moore to come here if we wanted. Cam Robinson is also still available, and I am not suggesting Cam is as good as Tunsil (Dean).

I agree that Allen is better than Kinlaw but I hold out hope because Kinlaw is younger. I also did not find Allen that impressive in this system so perhaps Kinlaw will fit better. I am at least hopeful with this pick up.

Chinn going elsewhere really bothers me as he is younger and better as far as I can see…but maybe Harris is more of a Ryan Clark than I expect (underrated because of no flash).

The problem with all this bargain shopping, if reported cap space is true, we wasted all our cap on garbage players.

I thought we would go after some younger talent but truthfully, this is a weak FA class. It bothers me that we didn’t go after Becton who signed 2 years 20 million total at only 25 years of age. Hell, they could have gone Fries for 5 years and 88 million if they wanted a more consistent option.

I am not a big priority guy. I am a get the best player at the best deal guy.

I wanted Sweat and he came in under 20 mil. I would have done that in a heartbeat.

I didn’t see any corners that met my threshold for gotta have. At the price Jourdan Lewis or Isaac Yiadom would have been OK but we resigned the one I wanted the most in Iggy.

Holland and Hufanga would have been fine but 15 mil in FA for safeties may be a little to much and I like Quan.

As for WR, it was an incredibly weak class and I am glad we didn’t go after any. Deebo was the perfect signing for us, albeit older than I like. The only other WR worth going after would have been Nick Westbrook.

We got our RT in Coleman.

I really think we missed at guard though. I think the value was there for Becton and Fries was really good too but more expensive.

You are 100% spot on with your comment of "we wasted all of our cap on garbage players". Of course Samuel and LT tie up some of that open cap we had. They aren't garbage, but the long list of 1 year deals for 3-5 million is what I don't get.

In no way should we have gone Vinny style and handed out absurd contracts to aging players, but the DL signings were overkill in my book. We nickle and dimed our cap space down.

I wanted us to spend on Guard as well and secure Moore, or use that 29th pick on the LT/RT if the value was there. That is why I hate trading picks: it limits what you can do in the draft and almost forces you to spend in free agency.

I like Samuel but is he a #2? His play has declined every year and he has put on some pounds. I like him in our offense, but I still think we need a #2 next to TMac.

i feel a little bit better about the Harris deal since he played with Lattimore.
They can be on the same page quicker than others. Chinn was a clutch tackler but in reality his pass defense was shaky.
I'm concerned most about WR, HB and pass rush on defense. Clearly Fowler would have came back, and unless the crew assumes they can easily replace his production in the draft...this is concerning.
currently, im no longer confident we are going back to the NFCCG. i still believe we are playoff bound but this ain't the team thats gonna win a NFCCG right now

True on Chinn and like I said, maybe Harris is a Ryan Clark type.

I am not worried about the offense at all. We are clearly better there, and I think JD is as good as any QB in the league.

The pass rush somehow did get worse but maybe the Rush defense got better.

I still think we can win the SB next season.

We didn’t go Vinny style because we didn’t hand out big contracts to aging players. We added ALOT of agin players at lower costs instead.

Right now, we are likely superbowl losers...gonna need another year to win it

I think we need someone else, as well as another solid draft to "win" the superbowl.
Right now, we are likely superbowl losers...gonna need another year to win it

With JD, we can beat any team. We have proven it. Even with a poor defense, we can outscore people because we can score on every possession.

Wait. This doesn’t make sense. The corners were unproven because they are rookies.
