How far back do you have to go to find a pitching staff this bad and a team that has enough meat in the middle to sometimes be dangerous? Early Randy days?

Expected them to take a step back from last year given the historic nature, but not take a walk off a cliff ffs.

Cano has the same demeanor as Grant Hill... Superstars who make things look easy while making it look like there is little effort behind what they're doing...

If Walker gives up 5 or more early tomorrow is he on a bus to Tacoma before midnight?

I think so... I think it would be hard to keep him up... Gotta replace him w/ Elias or Saunders....

OTOH, we really need Walker to come up big for us tomorrow... If anything, it will give us some hope...

I'm tired of these guys (Dave Valle) making the M's sound better than they are playing... Back up the talk... That's all i'm asking...

Of all the struggling pitchers we have Walker would seem the least likely to work out of his funk quickly on his own.

I think long term this year he will be a factor, but his head hasn't been right since his first pitch and I'm not holding my breath he has fixed it in the last week.

Not a bad request, but that would actually mean someone seriously TRYING to set a precedent for the team. So far, no takers.

Since I get up at 5 I went to bed at 9:30 knowing that I would wake up happier knowing I slept through a loss rather than staying awake and watching them lose it somehow. Seems was right again.

It really doesn't shock me regarding what our staff is doing. Said it last year and all off season; our pitching overachieved. How could management just sit there and do little to change things?

It does remind me of the mid 90's where we had Johnson (best pitcher in baseball) and 4 others guys hanging on for their MLB lives. The the big move was Andy Benes who was okay, but no stud. He must have been cheap.

Shields for me was the move this off season along with Volquez (sp?). Pitchers that can go 7 regularly save the pen and make them look better than maybe they really are.

Oh well, it's just the Mariners. Here for our enjoyment and to make our lives a little less stressful...lol.

I think most people expected a market correction with the M's pitching, but not a complete market crash. Easy to say you predicted the downturn, but this badly?

Kuma wasn't great down the stretch last year and hasn't been good so far this season. His splitter and slider were better yesterday, but he's still hanging too many pitches. Can he correct that? Sure. He's been effective before and I see no reason why prior injuries or age would change that. Going to a dominating #2? Not sure. Right now we'd take just a slightly above average 3 or 4 out of him.

Walker showed he can hit his marks in spring and last year. Has to be mental for him doesn't it? If he can't work out of his problem up here he will go back to Tacoma where he was comfortable before and no doubt work things out.

Paxton is young too. Maybe he's not consistent right now and no one knows for sure if he can ever reach his full potential. It's certainly not helping him going out and giving up so many runs in every start.

Get any two of those three just back to average and this is a whole different team. The run support is there. We don't need them to be as perfect as they were required to be last year. Hell, maybe that's part of the problem. They don't have the same pressure. They knew if they gave up more than 2 runs last year the odds of getting a W were not great.

The starting staff won't be as good as last year, but they don't need to be to reach the same number of wins. They won't stay this bad all season. The question is how much better can they get and maintain over the summer?
