It does remind me of the mid 90's where we had Johnson (best pitcher in baseball) and 4 others guys hanging on for their MLB lives. The the big move was Andy Benes who was okay, but no stud. He must have been cheap.
Shields for me was the move this off season along with Volquez (sp?). Pitchers that can go 7 regularly save the pen and make them look better than maybe they really are.
Maybe Im off but I think Benes was a deadline deal and we only had him a couple of months. I do remember the other B's ( Bosio, Belcher and Bob(Wells)) LOL. That rotation was definitely held together by duct tape outside of RJ. Another decent arm and they probably get by Cleveland but oh well. The next year it got a little better when they got Moyer and Fassero.
Regarding the offseason I never really considered Shields an option so I didn't go there. I did however think Volquez and McCarthy were options and was hoping for one of the two. Heck even a buy low move like Beachy would have been nice for depth but oh well. I don't think the pitching is as bad as its showing but I think a lot of luck was involved last year as well.
As crazy as it sounds I would take a loss tonight if it means Walker looks good. Almost think that's more important at this point.
