That's why I'm not interested. And that's why a few want to pass on Cousins. If we made the playoffs last year,
no one would overreact to this line of reasoning. We CAN'T sign Cousins, get a respectable front 7 and LG(as you mentioned) and then not be strapped for cash the next century.
Actually yes we can. With Litch retiring we have right around $65M in cap space
Let that sink in. $65M
So lets say we actually have to tag Cousins, still leaves $52M in cap space
Lets also say we go ape shit and sign JAckson, Garcon,BAker and 5 other FA's all to long term deals that average $10M a year....
Most of those deals will come in around $6.5-$8M against this years cap.
So if we went totally apeshit and spent like it was going out of style, we would need to come up with about $10M more than we have to account for draft picks. The bright side is, we have almost $90M in projected cap space next year.
The days of the big bad cap monster Romo type deal are dead dude. And most that are saying we CANT sign Cousins to that type of deal dislike him for other reasons and the contract is just a cop out for not admitting that they just want ABC at QB... Anyone But Cousins.
