After the first game on the road vs a top 10 opponent?
Sure. You may not win but you come away knowing you're headed in the right direction because of the things you did.

Did you come away with that feeling last night.

Hard to judge. I thought this would be Texas's toughest game of the year. If its Halloween and it looks like this, you will see me change my tune. It was an ugly game. I had predicted wholesale change for the bye week, I think this just moves the time table up.

You cannot read much into that game.

It was a clear mismatch of talent and experience.
Texas never had a chance versus a better more experienced top 10 team on the road.
No amount of coaching was helping last night. The talent mismatch was obvious.

Any progress will be judged by games versus middle tier teams like OSU, Oklahoma, K-STate, and WVU.
None of those teams are particularly great either. They have warts and weaknesses as well.

The middle four will tell if Texas is moving in the right direction.

They went 2-2 last season with essentially the same horrible offense...if not worse offense.
If they can go 3-1 this time around, it will be progress.

Nice link, dunce
There's nothing wrong with the link in relation to Jexas fans. It's a metaphor for failure something Jexas is familiar with dunce. Another year of hitting Rick Bottom for Jexas fans :lsugh3:

Aren't these Juniors and Seniors on this team from the #2 and #3 ranked recruiting classes a couple years ago?

I don't see as though giving Strong time to recruit is going to make things any better.

It's all about coaching in general.

That was not an excuse.
Strong has made a decision with his philosophy.
But, He deserves to be judged once the team is all his guys.

Strong ran all the offensive linemen off the team with his morality purges. He consciously made a weak unit critically weak and the team overall very thin. He has to live and die with his credo. Morality vs Talent

Deep down (if we admit it), we would love to have a thug loser like Joe Mixon on the team getting 200 all purpose yards in week one.... but it wont happen under Charlies watch.

It is hard to swallow...and it might not work.
But, there wont be any Dorial-Green Beckhams on his team no matter how talented.
That is an absolute crock of shit.

You're making it sound like Mack Brown only recruited guys with character flaws and criminal records. He brought in a lot of highly regarded players, and the majority of them are still there. Strong booted some guys, sure, but with the classes Texas regularly got under Brown, there's no excuse for Strong's performance. There's talent there, he just doesn't know what to do with it.

I'll be quite honest here.

There is nothing in CFB better than watching the most bloviating fanbase constantly tell us how much money they have, how they get the pick of talent in Texas, underachieve once again, and get their asses handed to them by 35 points.

Take a look and check how many seniors are left from that class. Texas came in 108th in ecperience. Most of the team has been there 1-2 years. Makes relying on recruiting rankings from 4 years ago look silly

Well, it would've been nicer if the 35 point loss wasn't to one of the most sanctimonious, entitled fanbases out there though.

Glad we can help you deal with losing your first game. Firing shots at Texas is probably a lot easier than focusing on your own reality

If Texas is 1-5 at their Bye week, does Charlie get fired.

Honestly? Yeah. Mack Brown left good players at Texas for the Mack Brown system. Now Strong is having to recruit and rebuild for his system and it may take more than a season for him to be able to do that.

Don't know about you, but I see a full roster with over 110 players on it.

Texas Longhorns Athletics - 2015 Football Roster

It's not like USC or Penn St who've been on probation

Some of the best players on Ohio State last year when they won the national title:

Ezekiel Elliott - rFr
Joey Bosa - Soph
JT Barrett - rFr
Jalin Marshall - rFr
Vonn Bell - Soph
Darron Lee - rFr
Eli Apple - rFr
Raekwon McMillan - Fr
Curtis Samuel - Fr
Dontre Wilson - Soph
Tyvis Powell - Soph
Billy Price - Fr
Pat Elflein - Soph

Again, that is an absolute load of bullshit.

Not really. I haven't seen the number, but I would guess 10+ true freshmem saw the field yesterday. That shouldn't happen in a healthy program in the opener, before the inevitable injuries take place.

It actually helps a lot.

2015: Nebraska loses to BYU on last second Hail Mary.

2014: BYU 41 Texas 7

2013 BYU 40 Texas 21

The glaring difference is that Nebraska doesn't have the $$$$ and recruiting base that Texas has.

It's Ok. Go With that. Make sure you ignore that BYU lost its starting QB, NFL prospect at NG, MLB (lasts years leading tackler), and their returning Safety. Prior to those injuries it wasn't looking good.

I thought the freshmen showed signs of life. Jefferson was great. Freeman glashed. Burt with a huge catch. Boyd was a demon on special teams. Hughes looked good (Soph).
