I don't think it's a clear cut case that either one is the "better team", so the smart thing to do would be to not be stupid and say something definitive like one or the other is a better team. Yeah the Lions won two close games head-to-head, but the Bears have the better record. Some teams have better one-to-one matchups against specific teams, some are better suited to beating a wider variety of opponents, and some get lucky at the right time. Where the Bears and Lions are in that cocktail is hardly very clear, which is why I wouldn't foolishly say something like the Bears are better or the Lions are better. They are both more or less about the same.
