It would give BB the draft capital to manipulate the draft. He could trade out of round one with both pick and gain more capital. For what ever reason this team has the knack to take DBs late in the draft and have them work out. The Pats are cap tight and still in rebuild mode, I could see this a very beneficial. Just not sure what JC s value could be set at.

It means a team will pay the tagged player no less than the average of the five highest salaries at the player’s position over the last five years, or 120 percent of the player’s cap number from the previous season, whichever is greater. The player is allowed to negotiate with other teams, but his current team can match any offer sheet. If a player's current team declines to match another team's offer, it will be awarded two first-round draft picks as compensation.

“It was all positive things,” he said. “I wanted to focus on ball at the time. I wanted to finish the season the right way. I didn’t really come back to them on it.”

So he has some ownership in the line of communication as well.
