You do realize that since you don't agree with the NFL and what you call their 'bigotry', that makes you a bigot as well, right?

Incorrect.

Bigot: a person who is obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially : one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance

Without getting into a whole diatribe about the history of religion, which from reading your posts you obviously know little about Shopson, I will remind you that this country was founded on the basis of religion, and our founding fathers were God-fearing religious men. The centuries old book that you're referring to I assume is the Bible. It seems to me that the morals of the Bible were good enough for this nation to prosper under until just recently when the liberals and "new age thinkers" such as yourself started lowering the standards of our society. Tell me Shopson, if you don't get your morals and ethics form a "centuries old book" where exactly do you get them? From watching "Desperate Housewives"? From the ****ography you watch? From the smut on TV and in the movies and media that we call entertainment today? That seems to be a major problem today IMHO. The media dictates the morals of our society, and decides what is right and what is wrong. If Hollyweird embraces it, well it must be good, right? ---like for example the homosexual movement/agenda. Heaven help anyone today that criticizes homosexuality. You're then labeled a racist, bigot, prejudice, etc.

I think you need to put down the TV guide and read the book your criticizing and get to know it a little more before making any more silly comments that obviously show your ignorance.

I don't need a book to tell me how to live, I have common sense. People pick and choose what they want out of the Bible, and there are some terrible (and silly) things included in there. I'm not going to continue this argument any further, as it will only upset people and this is a sports board. Thanks for all of your incorrect generalizations about me though; would expect nothing less.

Are you or are you not against those that do not support equal rights for gays?

He's this years Te'o. Media wanted Te'o to come out SOOOOOO bad so when he didn't they had to find another guy. No doubt he didn't do this on his own. He was perused by the Liberal media with fame and fortune and he sold out. Just wait until he's standing next to Obama and Hillary on TV. That day is coming.

I don't find much silliness in the Bible Shopson. On the contrary, if you want silliness, go to the avenues I mentioned earlier. People take things out of context and try to put their own spin on everything to suit their cause. Keep it in context and you'll get an accurate picture. I once saw a priest on a news show saying "This is what Jesus said about homosexuality in the Bible" He then opened a book to reveal blank pages. Of course he had his own agenda. He was attempting to divert the truth. What he didn't reveal is that the Bible calls homosexuality an abomination and participants worthy of death. Jesus didn't have to say it because God already addressed it a long time ago. A perfect example of using something out of context.

As far as generalities, you're right they are generalities. But look at society---the generalities I listed are based on what our society has become.

And you're also right, this is a sports forum. But the topic came up because of being related to sports, and it was commented on by multiple people. If you were so concerned with upsetting people as you claim, why did you involve yourself then in the first place? The thread was doing perfectly fine without you, you could have stayed uninvolved. What I really think happened is that you got into something a little bit over your head and are now looking for a graceful way out.

I'm sure Sam was well aware that he was a fringe NFL prospect and he probably got great advice considering that MU is known for its J school. This isnt the media using him. Its an intelligent, confident person taking advantage of his opportunity.

Where did you get your common sense from Shopson? Was that something your mind manufactured before it was mature enough to develop a memory through verbal development?

I think you have a few questions to answer from Boss, jeffro, and Robbase that are not adequately answered by the notion of generalizations and accusations of intolerance you levied at Boss. Otherwise I think you are whistling dixie here.

I think our religious and polical beliefs should be kept to ourselves on these forums. Sure there's nothing wrong with saying you're a Christian or an atheist or Democrat or Republican. my point is people can choose to believe whatever they want and that's what makes America what it is today. I dare any of you to go live in a 3rd world country. I did for a good part of my life and it really opened my eyes to how little and insignificant our views and opinions really are. As I'm sure most of you have heard that nothing stops friendships faster than talk of religion and politics. And I can see people are starting to get their panties in a twist, so lets do ourselves a favor and keep this thread clean.

It is clean jacobarch. As long as this mod is still around, I'll assure you that the panty twist won't become a major wad. So far, everyone is cool.

Yes, but it's quickly escalating and I don't want people to be chased away or feel not welcome. This is a good site with a good forum fan base (so far). I would rather build on that than destroy it.

I hear you jacobarch and I agree on the quality of this board. Nobody is being chased away and unless someone starts really trollin', there is little to be concerned of because just about everyone on this board knows the rules. We are building a very good board as you stated and this thread isn't threatening anything by its content and the subsequent discussions. Point well taken.

Some maybe missing the point. Shopson. You are entitled to your opinion. Don't let anyone tell you different. My family has for generations fought even to the death for you too be able to voice it. While I don't agree with your opinion. You don't seem to be forcing yours on anyone. I will even now fight to defend your right or anyones else's. But you must allow for others to also have theirs without malice which you seem to have done.

I don't see any issue with the Bible, as long as it's taken for what it is... a collection of fables and stories. The good in that, is that most of these stories do indeed teach good lessons and should inspire good moral values. The problems arise when people take this written word as law, interpret it to suit themselves and treat it like life's playbook.

The major issue I have is that "Christians" tend to be very selective when interpreting (and spreading) the message of the Bible. They like to pick and choose what morals and values they want to hold dear and which ones aren't so important. I mean... "Christians" view homosexuality as an abomination that should be scoffed at... "because the Bible says so"... yet they think nothing of wearing a polyester shirt, or owning a mixed-breed dog. Both of which are forbidden according to the good book. Hell... this is a football forum, yet I haven't seen anybody forsake Zac Stacy for regularly handling the flesh of a pig for 100 yards every week, or Jeff Fisher for working on Sunday. Ray Rice just assaulted his wife and dragged her, unconscious, through a casino... and Michael Sam is the one going to hell??. Lol. For being on the moral high road, a lot of these "Christians" sure tend to miss the mark on what society's woes really are.

Fact of the matter is, a lot of "Christians" simply dislike homosexuality, but love football (BTW... I write "Christians" in quotes, because my understanding is that in true Christianity, both God AND his followers love and accept everyone, regardless of their differences), so to them, it's perfectly justifiable to skirt the issue with one, but stand firm on the other.

Like the author, A.B. Potts once said; "I have no problem with God... it's his fan club that scares me." Lol

Opinions are like assholes.........you know the rest.

While I'm a Christian I'm not going to argue whether or not all of the stories in the bible are true or false. I too believe a lot of these stories are to teach people about moral values. I do agree agree people pick and choose what they want to believe in or what they want to hear. But people are imperfect and often are led astray by others whom have hidden agendas. (on both sides of the fence) However, it is within our rights to agree or disagree with homosexuality. And the sooner people/media/our government understands that the better off we'll be as a society.

This is a well thought out comment Jacob--didn't think you had it in you.....Just Kidding!!
You may be right as well. But on these boards you're bound to stumble on a touchy subject from time to time, and there is not much that is more volatile than this topic. But in the environment that I grew up in, if you were going to voice an opinion you'd better be prepared to back it up with some facts and logic. Things do indeed get heated, and I personally apologize if I've offended anyone. That was not my intention. It was my intention however to defend my position on the subject with a valid argument while attempting to refute the opposite side of the argument. When things transcend the topic of football I really don't know how you segregate it out of the forum, which I don't know if you even want to. I think the only thing you can do is keep it civil. Perhaps I didn't conduct myself in an appropriate manner, with my comments getting a little too personal. Again, I apologize for that. If you'll excuse me I must go and unravel my undergarments now.

Back to the topic: whatever team does draft Sam is going to have a media circus around it just like the one that followed Tebow.

Teams will have to decide if the player is worth the circus (ala Tebow).

It will be interesting to see which team is willing to take that on.

I read a fair amount of this and then gave up and just sorta skimmed. Here's what I have to say. I don't support state recognition of gay marriage, I don't support state recognition of straight marriage. I don't support a centralized government that handles social issues. I don't support our nations currency manipulation used by the government. I don't support out nations current political structure of large scale general elections. I don't support nationally funded relief issues over seas. I don't supports the spending habits of our government. I don't support raising minimum wage. I don't support our welfare and social security systems. I support each states rights to determine its own laws with the exception of few. I support lessening restrictions and taxation on large corporations. I support letting those who make poor personal decisions fail. I believe that many of this country's issues have been caused by over indulgence by the generations above me and many will continue because of the entitled demeanors of my own generation. All that said I love my country to death because it has blessed my with more than I have ever given it. Most importantly I believe that God sent his son to this earth where he lived as a man, was executed, rose again 3 days later, and has paid for my sins that I may one day be with him in heaven.

Now you know what I think. You know why you should care? You probably shouldn't. I'm a 21 year old kid who feel like I know a fair amount about football. That's the sole reason I'm here, to talk about football. Now lets all shut up and talk about football.
